John Lennon's toilet sold

A Chinese porcelain lavatory belonging to John Lennon fetched £9,500 at an auction in Liverpool on Friday - almost ten times its guide price.
The toilet had been expected to sell for about £1,000 in the auction, which took place at the 33rd annual Beatles convention in the Institute for the Performing Arts in his native city.
Lennon used the lavatory for three years (non-continuously) between 1969 and 1972. He gifted it to builder John Hancock upon renovation of his house, telling the builder to "use it as a flower pot." Hancock stored it in a shed up until his death recently.
"It is unbelievable," auction organiser Stephen Bailey said. "We had bids coming in from all over the place but it went to a private overseas buyer."
