New Sufjan Stevens Album
2010-08-26 by Kiran EMERITUS | 29 Replies | 1938 Views

With the music community still getting to grips with the surprise release of All Delighted People EP, Sufjan Stevens' label has now announced that a new full-length album, titled The Age of Adz, will be released on October 12th. They went on to say that it "sounds nothing like the All Delighted People EP" and that the title is a reference to the artist Royal Robertson, whose work is used as the album art.

Pre-orders are now available and will be rewarded with an MP3 download of the album two weeks before its official release.

My fear is that the "All Delighted People EP" was merely a sop thrown to his fans -- his last vestiges of acoustic songwriting. His new album will likely mark his transition to the doom metal genre.

its 11 songs, and its suppose to take a more electronic approach

I'd rather hear Sufjan make a Chicago math-post-rock album.

Great news! Hope it doesn't stray too far from Illinoise.

^ i'm pretty sure it will, judging from the Asthmatic Kitty press release..

if it's only 11 songs, there should be less filler than Illinois had (admittedly that filler was often very beautiful)

Yes, for "filler" it was quite good. We both have that album at a 4.5. I just hope he doesn't go all electronic on us.

Awesome news. I'm hoping for more of his newer sound in this one. Though having his older sound wouldn't be too bad tbh.

and I'm not happy with this:

The cosmic themes are only more augmented by the obvious sonic shift on this album, which is deliberately electronic, synthesized (and occasionally danceable!). Acoustic guitars and banjos have been replaced here by drum machines and analog synthesizers. Loops, samples, and digital effects gurgle and hum underneath every verse, chorus, and bridge.
