least they have one last ep coming. playing their vinyls now.
say what? I just got into them. Damn.
Digging: The Mountain Goats - Beat the Champ
Wasn't the most devout fan of Isis, but this does suck. They were certainly a impressive band.
Whack attack, mother(#&*%#.
oh noes. isis was the only post-metal i could really get into
Disappointed but I understand why.
Too many good bands breaking up.
Try Cult of Luna.
i still got neurosis...*knocks on wood*
there's some other good shit out there too
If anyone runs of out of post-metal to check out, I have more.
relinquished to the rescue :D
ah man, they were the only Metal band I actually consistently liked. Well guess who just got a little less manly
Using this time to promote The Waters Deep Here, for whom I just wrote a review for today.
My friend was trying to get me into Isis. Sad-face moment here.
This shit sucks man...
Digging: Mew - -
thanks ill look into them
as upsetting it is, its good they ended on healthy terms-doing whatever they wanted.
Digging: Dustin Kensrue - Carry The Fire
Better than having wood and knocking on Neurosis.
D: Horrible news. I was just starting to get into this band!
omg wtf?! now i really need to get tickets to see them
fuuuuuck that.... goddamnit isis
yea i just bought mine as soon as I saw this
fuck the woooorld
Too bad, I was just starting to get into them, really liked their newest album.
yeah damn i was just gettin real into these guys, definitely seein them in boston in June
Digging: The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
obviously a few people but thank you zippermouth
WHAT THE FUCK
As disappointing as this is, I totally respect their reasoning. "Wavering Radiant" was starting to rip off their earlier material fairly liberally, so at least they ended before making a less-than-satisfactory album.
Digging: The Smashing Pumpkins - Monuments to an Elegy
wow this is unfortunate... makes sense though
lame, but they will live on in my ipod.
zippermouth that was a dumb thing to say
i don't care about their reasoning. wavering radiant was still different enough to be good. i'd assume their next album would at least be a 4 if not better.
Wow, their break up is as impressive as their albums. Almost brilliant, but far from catastrophic.
NOOOO!!! But I totally respect the reasoning behind it. They shall be missed!
Now playing the Mosquito Control
GODDAMNIT I HATE MY LIFE AND THE WORLD
Most I can hope is that they come up with some good stuff in new endeavors...
Digging: Jakub Zytecki - Wishful Lotus Proof
WTF!! No! This is seriously a huge blow to the genre! Fuck.
Well, I'll go ahead and put them in the category of bands that I start to get into and then they break up. Sucks.
This downright Sucks. I'll definitely keep an eye on what the members move on to.
Digging: Motoi Sakuraba - Dark Souls Soundtrack
Damn...this really sucks, Isis were easily on of the top 3 bands of the last decade.
Thank God, I got my tickets for their Montreal show....this will be an event to remember...
Digging: My Morning Jacket - The Waterfall
mad respect for these guys for knowing when to call it quits
Couldn't they have at least waited at least a week after Dio's passing before dropping this bomb on us? I mean come one. This totally ruined my week.
Digging: In The Valley Below - The Belt
ya fuck u isis
i'm gonna listen to their discography all day and slit my veins at midnight
I just started digging Panopticon. Shame, hope the bandmates (especially the bassist- what a beast) get good gigs.
they're still finishing their tour, right?
bahahaahahhahahaahahahahahhahahhahah south park
yeah, just got panopticon the other day...while i enjoyed it, i wonder what better there catalog has to offer?
damn. thankfully saw these guys earlier in the year. lets hope the EP is a great farewell
at least they had time to put out some good stuff before they died on us
Wow, for me this is really terrible news, and I just recently got back in to them. I respect and understand their reasons for calling it quits like they did, and I guess it is for the best. Oh well.
best news all week
they will be remembered as the pioneers of "post metal"
Sucks but anything that helps kill post-metal is a good, good thing.
Digging: Faith No More - Sol Invictus
Damn, Isis is easily up there as one of my favourite bands, glad I got to see them live recently in a killer show in melbourne.
Seriously hoping members go on to do other projects
Damn, shame. Never got to see them play either.
Is this bad?
not to be a dick, but they were heading downhill ever since they released Oceanic/Panopticon. I now have major respect for the band for recognising that
they will be remembered as the pioneers of "post metal"haha
I think their time had come but what does this say about post-metal as a genre when as they put it have said everything that needs to be said (musically).
What was the last relevant post metal album in the people of sputniks opinion (aside from wavering radiant)?
the last time Neurosis did something duh (2007).
when as they put it have said everything that needs to be said (musically).they were talking about themsleves, not the genre as a whole. Neurosis have been releaseing unique album after unique album since 1993 so as long they are still around, not everything has been said [/fanboy]
FUCK FUCK FUCK! This really pisses me off. These guys were one of my favourite bands. This just fucking sucks.
what ??????? whats wrong with these bands this year ? damn
Damn it. And I was JUST getting into them.
At least they are going out with class. Fucking sucks though, great band. Wavering Radiant was fucking brilliant, not to down any other of their amazing albums.
isis should now become itit...
I don't know why people are disappointed by this move, there's still plenty of boring shit you have the ability to listen to.
best thing you've ever said
Ya i realize Isis were only talking about themselves but does one band (Neurosis) really make a genre relevant? Don't get me wrong I love post-metal I'm afraid its dying out though and that sucks
first Burst and now Isis ..thats two of my favourite bands calling it quits in quick succession
well Neurosis, Cult Of Luna and Rosetta all rule, and imo they're all better than Isis so there's still a few bands worth watching. most of the rest is shit though
This is kinda disappointing. I never got to go and see them live :-(
Didn't see this coming either
I was never a huge fan but they were still a good band
that's rly sad :/
Oh well, they will be remembered as the pioneers of "post metal"
no they fucking won't and if they do it's a travesty
Such a shame, were such a inspiration
2010 has claimed too many awesome bands:/ Really sucks but I can dig it, bowing out before you get too lame is always the way to go.
^ too true ^
won't miss this band
This fucking sucks, way disappointed.
FUCK FUCK FUCK
Digging: Prurient - Through the Window
Shattered. Glad they went out on a high, though.
Thank god i saw them when they came here over summer.
But still, fucking shattered.
While im certainly a fan of the band I have to confess that the break up isn't such a disappointment for me. Their first 3 albums were superb but I think that, musically, they would have gone nowhere in near future. Too bad I didn't get a chance to see them live though.
I don't know how people can say they went off the edge with their last few albums? The expanded so well upon their old sound. I mean, how many fucking times do you kids want to hear the same bloody album pumped out again and again?
They need to be inducted in the Sputnik HOF
I just didn't think their last two albums were as good as Oceanic, Panopticon or Celestial.
Takes guts to do that.Just hope we don't have a "reunion" in 7-8 years from now
How come every time Isis are discussed on this site some tweeker faggot Neurosis fan has to come along and make the same old predictable comments?
i'm a fan of both bands. its possible. the early Isis ep's are superb and Oceanic is a classic of the genre. Their last two records were a bit lacking but they've done enough to be granted a lot of respect, and kudos to them for not opting to carry on when their hearts weren't in it.
Celestial > anything by them!!
Wavering Radiant was pretty ok, but not as good as the four before it. Sad news though, they were still putting out better stuff than a lot of metal bands.
this was easy to see coming after seeing some of the interviews that came out in promotion of wavering radiant, it became pretty clear they were reaching the end, and they really have done all they can do, they're starting to repeat themselves
I figured this was a good time to finally listen to celestial.
At least they stopped before becoming sh*tty. Hopefully other members' future stuff will be good.
Never liked this band THAT much, but this sucks. They were incredible, none the less. Oceanic was one hell of an album, and I did have the pleasure of seeing them live in 2006; a very amazing show, to say the least. Sad news.
This kind of reminds me of Hunter S. Thompson's suicide. Both ended everything before things got ugly. RIP.
"say what? I just got into them. Damn."
Yeah same here.
Chose not to go see thier last tour. Regret that now.
Not that surprising. Post-metal (if it can be called that) is on its way down. This is probably the best move for them.
ISIS SPLIT UP
Bad news! I totally only got into these guys earlier this year. I love Panopticon and Wavering Radiant. At least I've still got Cult of Luna!
thanks for your input friend
I think 3/4 of sputnik simultaneously killed themselves after hearing this
This is the worst news I've heard all year.
listened to whole discography
I would've done the same thing if I was the band tbh
Well, I can respect their decision to call it quits on top of their game. If they feel like they did everything that they wanted to do as a band...why try to push it further. Maybe 2 or 3 years down the line, they may want to do something new, but until then, I am curious to see what the future brings for the other guys' careers.
At least they went out with a good discography.
This is very sad.....The only good news lately was that of the GY!BE reunion.
I enjoyed the Wavering Radiant a lot. I hope they put out another live DVD with these songs.
Aaron Turner does run one of the best metal labels out there...priorities can be a bitch!!!
sad news, but i'll be at their final show in MONTRE FUCKING AL
I'm not sure which to mourn more, Dio or Isis; this week sucks large, hairy, epididymal hypertension-experiencing gorilla testicles.
Dam it... :/
Wow, every single comment was deleted that referred to the fact that I posted this first, Alex then deleted my news article (and defended himself by saying that it was "written like ass"), and then posted the news under his own name that consists of only a quote from the band.
There was at least twenty such comments, if not more. If not that's abuse of power and censorship, I don't know what is.
*If that's not
You're an idiot. I never even read your article. But if it was deleted, it was because it was written like ass. I was asked to post this in light of your asshattery, which I did. Now stop getting your panties in a knot.
Digging: Mew - -
2nd Worst news of the year
if staffers had the power to delete things than i would delete everything
more bands need to do this sort of thing, instead of spiraling down the shitter...In Flames: take note.
i kind of stuffed up earlier, isis should now change thier name to waswas
Wasn't the most devout fan of Isis, but this does suck. They were certainly a impressive band. (Stop deleting my post whoever you are, or at least give me an explanation as to why you are being a prick).
FUCK, pretty shitty news
It seems like in the last year every band has either been robbed, broken up or had one of its members die. Looks like that shitty luck from 2009 is continuing to leak into 2010 :-(
Digging: Goolagoon - Patrickviolence Demo
This is fuckin terrible news... At least they put forward a good explaination, not just "hey, fuck ya'll, we out."
Still feel very lucky i got to see them a couple months ago, amazing night... Sorry to all those who never got to experience them... Sucks
sucks, but i respect their reason for the break.
this was the blackest day of my life.RIP and thanks for the awesome music over the years.
Eternium - the original news article was badly written. I remember having to read it a couple of times
to try to make sense of it. Why didn't you edit it?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO This fucking sucks. One of my favorite bands. At least they quit on a good note.
I don't know what to think.
Yes, this makes me sad, but at least they quit the game before they lost it.
isis to waswas is brilliant.
Thanks to Isis for helping teach me some patience while listening to music.
Hopefully they can bring a new band into the fold and unleash some of their great production wizardry.
Yup. 3/4 sounds about right.
i could of sworn i already commented on this thread, oh well R.I.P. isis and sputnik people who just commited mass suicide
Digging: Taylor McFerrin - Early Riser
sad days... Oceanic governed my life for a good 6 months straight. terrible news
just got my tickets to their last show in LA :D
disappointing but I really respect them for this decision, to me it means they really care about the music
seeing them in nyc and brooklyn on the 18th and 19th..can't wait.
