Two Leave Dimmu Borgir
2009-08-31 by Jom STAFF | 76 Comments
Norwegian black metallers Dimmu Borgir have dismissed two members. According to the band's most recent news release:

We regret to inform you that we have parted ways with both I.C.S. Vortex [bassist, clean vocalist] and Mustis [keyboards]. However, we do want to make it perfectly clear that the creative force in the band is highly intact, perhaps even more so than ever. With that being said, we're currently working on our next album and are excited to start a new chapter in the legacy that is Dimmu Borgir.

Even though the only album i liked the clean vocals on was Deathcult, i 'm still slightly disappointed by his departure. Mustis was eh. They'll probably find someone better

Actually there's a pretty cool outfit from Hungary who sound like a ressurected incarnation of Arcturus. They even have the gay artwork with with those fruity pirate outfits. But insetad of being solely avant garde, they're like techno/power metal/alternative, extreme metal. Damned Spirits' Dance is the band.

I'd say Spiritual Black Dimensions is their most symphonic album while DCA is more apocalypse-oriented sounds/effects, but obviously we're not going to see another EDT.

DCA had a full 50+ people orchestra, son. SBD was all synths

Balls, I checked DSD. The only song they had on YouTube was one called "TSS". A not so greatly recorded live performance, but I managed to hear some wonderful keyboards. Will look for full length albums.

Either way, the band truly isn't that bad. Not amazing, but not terrible. I can understand people not liking them and downing them for OMGZ not being kvlt and having OH NOES ORCHESTRATIONS, but some of their stuff is actually pretty decent and some of their compositions are pretty badass here and there.

okay, i actually think DB is very good for what they do. i really dont understand all the hate. and i always thought ICS Vortex was one of the strongest clean singers i have ever heard...seriously.
but on the topic, now that they have no clean vocals and keyboards, i suppose they are trying for a rawer feel? maybe like For All Tid? because i dont recall either on that album...but im not sure if it will work, because it really did help their symphonic sound.

Im amazed at the ignorance that goes in this thread. Shagrath is going to do keyboards for the next album if they don't find a keyboard player, but maybe they will shift their sound to their older albums.
Anyways to the people who call this band a ripoff from Emperor here is a news flash: DB sound nothing like emperor!
Emperor has a much more chaotic sound, the vocals are different, and the focus on keyboards are much different.
Also this band is not even close to tvue or kvlt and theyre not trying to be. Its SYMPHONIC black metal, a separate genre from black metal. They just choose to use corpsepaint, but that does not affect the music they make. Sure, they may not be the best Symphonic black metal band (IMO there is no "best" and "worst" band, or best or worst album overall either) but they are still good at what they do.
Who cares if they use an orchestra or whatever they fucking want in an album? It's the band's choice, it makes the symphonic effects more powerful, and there are not many albums that use this to record. If you don't like it simply don't buy their albums and don't download their music. Just ignore it, go praise the band's that you like instead of hating those that you hate.

Wise word @darkwargreymon ! its truly annoying to see so many people tell everyone how they dont care about something that other people might care about. Honestly, noone gives a crap bout what they think, and if they have nothing better to say, is there any people in even wasting time to write that?
what you said is right about DB, they are symphonic black metal, not simply black metal, so they shouldnt be compared to other bands who are!
