Lit Drummer Dies Of Brain Cancer

2009-08-14 by Athom EMERITUS | 39 Comments
Allen Shellenberger, drummer for California pop-rock band Lit, has succumbed to brain cancer.

Shellenberger's bandmates, Kevin Baldes, Jeremy and A.J. Popoff, released the following statement: "To know Al was to know laughter. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. Words cannot begin to express how much he will be missed. This was our brother and not a day will go by that we won't think about him. Right now we're trying to find the balance of mourning his loss and celebrating his life.

"Allen has experienced more in his 39 years than most people dream of in ten lifetimes. This is a tremendous loss for us, our fans, and also for Allen's family who took such good care of him during his battle with cancer."

Schellenberger was diagnosed with a malignant glioma brain tumor in May of 2008. He is survived by his daughter Giovanna Mackey, his mother Connie James, and his father Paul Shellenberger.

They had that radio-hit "My Own Worst Enemy" back in '99.

The band also had a song "Over My Head" on the soundtrack for the animated movie Titan A.E. I loved that song and I would play that part in the movie over and over again to hear it because I didn't have a cd or anything else to listen to it on.

I've never listened to this band, but I know what its like to have to deal with brain cancer. My dad has been fighting it for twelve years and was given two weeks to two months a month ago. Its a terrible thing.

RIP. Used to listen a lot to these guys back when I was a lot younger.

Benzum, rethink how you interpret that. Not gonna be able to explain it to you if you don't understand anyway.

Well I mean yeah, people get shot in the head in a babyseat when they're not even 2.

But that doesn't take the tragedy out of this case. Any age is too young if you have the least bit to offer

You're only kidding yourself if you think that life owes you a specific amount of years.

Different mindsets, dude. I agree with you entirely, but some people apparently think death should be more selective and algorithm-based.
