Black Dahlia Murder Lose Guitarist

2008-11-29 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 28 Comments
Guitarist John Kempainen has abruptly left Michigan death metal outfit the Black Dahlia Murder.

Said frontman Trevor Strnad in a statement: "On the eve of our December tour with friends Misery Index and Soilent Green, we in The Black Dahlia Murder are faced with a heartbreaking dilemma: John K. has abruptly left the fold and refuses to accompany us on the tour.

"We are left with no choice but to carry on with the dates as a four piece. The remaining members of the band apologize for these unprofessional circumstances, but we feel that it is best to go through with the tour and not disappoint the other bands as well as the fans who are looking forward to these shows. Please come out and show some Black Dahlia love in our hour of need."

I read the post last night. Sucks.
I don't know if he has left for good or if its something that can be sorted. Best of luck to them anyways. This Message Edited On 11.29.08

The repetitive solos is the worst thing about BDM, so while it is sad to hear him leaving, they will probably benefit from getting a better lead guitarist.

since when is this band Death Metal?

"Pseudo Death-Black-Melodic-Metalcore Metal" is more like it and also rolls off the tongue a lot easier. This Message Edited On 11.29.08

You know, it's really interesting how members have come and gone through BDM...I have the feeling this has something to do with Brian (I think the other guitarist) since everyone who leaves calls him a douche bag.

John was great, this is a terrible shame.
I know they'll manage okay though, Brian is the main songwriter.

Damn it I was looking forward to going to their show this Friday in Boise. I guess it is good that they are at least still continuing the tour, hopefully they can find a replacement by then, though I doubt it.

When they played death metal for the first time.
I'm sure you know what's Death Metal, theres so many legendary Death Metal bands in your album ratings.
Maybe you should abruptly
of course you would say that, you like Metalcore. And Metalcore fans have a really bad taste in Death Metal. "Through the eyes of the Dead", "Black Dahlia Murder" etc.. no offense dude, but that's the truth.

There is no need to call him upon whatever he listens to, and what he has rated, or stereotype through genres. Still, Black Dahlia Murder is no death metal whatsoever.

i would agree that this is death metal. I don't think the thrash metal guy should be telling other people they don't know death metal.

unless you find time to listen to more death metal in between WWF soundtracksThis Message Edited On 11.30.08

This pisses me off. i met John once right before they recorded unhallowed and smoked a bowl with him and drummer at the time Corey grady and he said this to me which is so true. especially on this site. he said......

"Why is every death metal band past 1999 metalcore and why is every hardcore band past 1999 metal?"

I said to him

"because ppl don't like anything that doesn't sound formulaic but they wlll still will say a band sucks if they record the same CD twice. most ppl have their cake and eat it too."

and then we smoked out and watched deicide.

PPL THEY ARE NOT EFFING METALCORE OR DEATHBORE. THEY ARE DEATH METAL. John said to me straight up.

"before i smoked with you i thought you were a prolly one of those moshing sxe fags seeing as you got that minor threat shirt on"

......the irony.

they have absolutely no hardcore influence themselves so why would they put that in their music.
