I think High on Fires new album was really underrated on a lot of lists (including my own hahaha). Revolver did the album justice! Nice to see Baroness at the top and Neurosis close behind (which should be on top of this list by the ways).

lol the blackening
|
| |
2. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works
- This is too high on the list for my liking
3. High on Fire - Death is the Communion
- Havn't heard but i've heard good things about them
4. Down - Down III: Over the Under
- Great Album
5. Machine Head - The Blackening
- havn't heard yet
7. Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead
- should be ranked a little lower
8. Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper Anchor
- WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!?!??!!?!? This is top 50 only
10. Behemoth - The Apostasy
- pretty good
11. Coheed and Cambria - No World For Tomorrow
- Metal?
15. Hellyeah - Hellyeah
- overrated
17. Chiodos - Bone Palace Ballet
- Metal?
20. The Red Chord - Prey for Eyes
- Pretty Good and should be ranked higher (15th or so)
|
| |
Mike, the Blackening is a really good album.
And its nice to see Everytime I Die ALOT lower than last year. Oooooh, hardcore and rock & roll, impressive.....but not really.
|
| |
Hellyeah - Hellyeah- overrated
How can an album be overrated if the majority hate it so much and view it an uninventive?
And lastly, Revolver should be forever discounted as a source of any significance due to the fact that they decided to rate Atreyu's new album so highly.
|
| |
Pretty awful list. Ire Works is a 3/5 on a good day, I'm considering taking my rating down even...
Baroness is pretty good, definitely top 10 material, but where the hell is Colors!?!?!?
|
| |
They put on Hellyeah but didnt put on Between the Buried and Me, bull. And Id be hesitant to call Co&Ca metal, but thats a great album.
|
| |
They're probably getting more praise than they deserve, but The Red Album was still pretty stellar. BTBAM, Symphony X, and The Red Chord definitely own up on that album this year though.
|
| |
Magazine lists blow.
|
| |
Hahahahah so true Zoo, but they have a broad reader base that they have to cater to. It doesnt surprise me why alot of people, especially Sputnik users, hate magazine lists. Still, at least this list covers many different types of metal and I found it better than Metal Edge's shat list!
|
| |
Chiodos... metal? List has been disregarded.
|
| |
1. Baroness - Red Album
-haven't heard it yet.
2. The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works
-good choice but a bit high and it's a stretch calling them metal.
3. High on Fire - Death is the Communion
-pretty good, but a little high.
4. Down - Down III: Over the Under
-Perfect.
5. Machine Head - The Blackening
-Overrated
7. Serj Tankian - Elect the Dead
-Not metal or good
8. Atreyu - Lead Sails Paper Anchor
-Waaaayyyy too high, and I'm pretty sure they jumped out the metal scene with this album.
10. Behemoth - The Apostasy
-Amazing album, Top 10 is good.
11. Coheed and Cambria - No World For Tomorrow
-Great album but not metal.
15. Hellyeah - Hellyeah
-No, just no.
16. Skeletonwitch - Beyond the Permafrost
-Good choice.
17. Chiodos - Bone Palace Ballet
-Not metal.
18. Everytime I Die - The Big Dirty
-Strecth calling them metal too but it's a damn good album.
20. The Red Chord - Prey for Eyes
-Meh.
What they left out:
Amorphis-Silent Waters
Between The Buried and Me-Colors
Porcupine Tree-Fear Of A Blank Planet
Pig Destroyer-Phantom Limb
|
| |
20 is good, 10 is ok, 14 is supposed to be good, but the rest are just ugh.
|
| |
lol, Grinderman on a metal list.
|
| |
I totally agree with 1, I would just put it a couple lower. 6 and 9 are worthy, I spose. Shit list otherwise.
|
| |
wow worst list ever
|
| |
I liked Ire Works, but overall this is a bad list.
|
| |
I made this list. Pretty bad. I only read Metal Hammer, BW BK, and Hammer. Fuck Edge and Revolver.
|
| |
18. Everytime I Die - The Big Dirty
-Strecth calling them metal too but it's a damn good album.
Not metal?????????
What they left out: Porcupine Tree-Fear Of A Blank Planet

I would have included Porcupine Tree on this list because of their incorporation of metal in their progressive rock.
|
| |
grinderman pwn but what the hell are they doing on this list!? are they metal through sheer virtue of having fairly dirty-sounding guitars in their music?
|
| |
hell yeah!
|
| |
You can't get metal hammer here, all we have is Metal Maniacs, Metal Edge, Revolver, and some Core magazine called Outburn.
|
| |
i hate metal magazines
|
| |
Well said Spat Out Sexy Men!
|
| |
Needs Colors and Phantom Limb.
|
| |
That is ACTUALLY the worst list ever.
|
| |
LOL, #15 makes this list invalid, wow, same with #8!
|
| |
With the exception of Deathspell Omega and maybe Behemoth this list is the epitome of suckage.
|
| |
Serj's album is mediocre at best. I also believe Hellyeah is pretty overrated. Chiodos doesn't belong there at all. It's nice to see Atreyu actually getting some recognition for their new album, although I wouldn't rate it one of the top metal releases of 07. But it's nice to hear change nonetheless. The rest of the bands I haven't really had an interest to check out.
oh yea and...what's the big fucking deal with behemoth anyway??? It's loud, heavy, fast giberish. The exact makings of black metal, so what makes them so fucking special? are they the loudestfastestheaviestgibberishgarbling band out there or is it just because of their costumes?? What kind of name is Nergal anyway? isn't that the name of the demon kid from Billy and Mandy that everyone picks on because he's a nerdy, demon dufus? Wth man. Wth. Better luck with 2008 I hope.
|
| |
Come on, Down III wasn't that good, it was alright at the most. I was hoping for a big sludge of pissed off metal from New Orleans and all we got was "Hey, Katrina didn't steal our happiness!!! Go Team!"
And Hellyeah are pure Nu crap, the only reason they are selling albums is because of dumb kids seeing it and saying "Lark OMG!!!111 That's Dimebags brudda's band11111!!! It must be well goooooooddlolol!!!111"
|
| |
NO BTBAM?! my gosh...
|
| |
Cool to see Behemoth on there.
|
| |
oh yea and...what's the big ****ing deal with behemoth anyway??? It's loud, heavy, fast giberish. Metal isn't for the faint of heart!
|
| |
Baroness- a very good album, no way at the top. No mention of Primordial's TTND , Shining's V Halmstad, Nightingale's White Darkness, Amorphis Silent Waters, Wolves in the Throneroom Two Hunters? C'mon, these lists are always horrible. Coheed and Cambria isn't even metal, their prog/rock/emo. With a singer who sounds like a 12 yr old kid! Absolutely cringe-worthy.
|
| |
Nergal is actually a polish folklore god. Of what, I cannot remember, and I'm too lazy to check wikipedia.
|
| |
i actually just created an account only to voice my opinion on baroness. im always after new good music, them being at the top of the list and praised by so many of you, i thought id download some, check em out, and see what theyre all about. Im sorry i wasted my time and wonder how they found themselves at the top. At best, theyre boring, uneventfull and would do better to put me to sleep then move me like metal music should. Societys definition of metal has become rather pathetic.
