Prayers heard: Kesha returns

2017-07-06 by literallyzach | 32 Comments
Kesha has returned sans dollar sign with the first single from her long-due followup to 2012's Warrior, entitled Rainbow, due out August 11.

"Praying" is an emotive ballad pondering existence and resilience in the face of adversity. The pop singer has been embroiled in a legal battle with producer Dr. Luke, keeping her contractually unable to release any new music, but her return to music with "Praying" marks collaborations with Ryan Lewis and Ben Abraham.

Holy crap that's a pleasant surprise. That showcase of range comes out of nowhere and it's powerful. But that note before the last chorus is a bit much.

Didn't think she could ever make something this good.

of course kesha needs to sing a piano-led song about suicide in order for sput to like her

Pleasantly surprised. I seem to be one of the few that has liked much of her music, but I didn't think her voice was up to this challenge.

Kesha was always solid, this just cements that fact.

"This is fucking stupid.

Is she like born again or some shit?"

It's just because she's been gone for a while. Might as well capitalize on it.

I hope so.

I love unabashedly sleazy and trashy Kesha, not this "I hope yur prayin'" bullshit.

Second half is pretty good.

almost didn't give this a chance cause the intro, the lyrics and the first half of the mv are so cheesy, cliché and boring

second half ain't particularly good either, but it's better than the first. aesthetic-wise, the mv is pretty hit-or-miss, and the song is disposable

Album will probably be mostly moodier stuff relating to past legal problems (and from a commercial perspective, minor key pop songs are the "in" thing right now thanks to Adele). But there'll probably be room for the more upbeat stuff as well in a sort of looking to the future sense.

Wowza, I've never really been an admirer of her past work but this is truly excellent - I genuinely never expected that from her. Gives me goosebumps, great stuff.

It's okay, vocals are great. The song's subject matter is hardly surprising.
