Pretty meh to be honest, Marcus still hasn't won me over
I did enjoy the split with In Hearts Wake tho, that was pretty fun
|
| |
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
another snooze-fest song
|
| |
Well, that was bland. I remember liking Node a lot, but this has absolutely no soul. It's as by the numbers as you can get. Production is weak as fuck as well.
|
| |
Better than Intuition but still pretty lackluster.
|
| |
lol how the fuck are the guitarists playing a Strat and Tele for this? If those are the studio instruments used, no wonder the guitars sound like ass
|
| |
This is fucking good you pricks.
|
| |
make something with an edge to it goddammit i remember the first time i heard genesis into scarab it blew my fucking head off
|
| |
man this band has been killing it recently
|
| |
and by 'it' I mean a once-promising career
|
| |
*throws tomatoes at Sinternet*
BOOOOOOOOO
|
| |
But yeah this sucks. Band sucks now too.
|
| |
That was good Sint, gave me a chuckle
@sempiturtle if by "fucking good" you mean "really boring and has no punch to it" then yea
|
| |
Adrian leaving really killed them
|
| |
This didn't bore me at all. Turn up your sub m8.
|
| |
All I know is that Northlane used Yawn and put me to sleep
You cannot sit there and try to tell me that this has any punch whatsoever, especially compared to Genesis and Scarab
|
| |
i was hoping from the mesmer video they put out that maybe they were gonna get spacier. this is ok but it could have been by like 15 other bands
|
| |
The only thing I got out of mesmer was some sweet desktop backgrounds
|
| |
As a citizen of Sputnik I have to say...
This song fucking sucks.
|
| |
Production is garbage, vocals are mediocre at best, instrumentals have no impact whatsoever, and the lyrics are generic.
Hard 1.5
|
| |
Agreed 100% my dude
|
| |
Sheesh even Snide is shittin on it. Good job Northland.
|
| |
I was never into these guys TOO much, but Node and Singularity were solid 3s for me.
This was just terrible, what the hell happened?
|
| |
Singularity and Discoveries are solid 4.5s for me (Discoveries has even tempted me to put it as a 5)
Adrian left is what happened
|
| |
I didn't like Discoveries that much (2.5)
What did you think of Node, Steak?
|
| |
All good man, it doesn't really seem like it's up your alley that much anyway haha
And Node was rather boring to me, but it had some sweet tracks on it like Rot and Ra. Overall tho it just felt like one long song to me, not a lot of variety in the songs or the structure of them. I think I have it as a 2.5, they just focused way too much on the atmospheric elements of it for my liking
|
| |
Yeah I can see that man. I honestly enjoyed this band for their more atmospheric moments which is why I liked Node a little more than their other material. Singularity had some lit jams though.
|
| |
I remember when I first heard Scarab, my god I thought my speakers were gonna blow out on the "THE TRUTH IS WE ALL SUFFER" refrain in the middle of the song. I miss that style of Northlane, it's a shame that they will probably never go back to their hard hitting ways
I do dig some of the atmospheric stuff tho, when they do it right it sounds amazing
|
| |
"Adrian left is what happened."
I think they were headed this way anyway man. Marcus just happened to come in as they decided to go more atmospheric. The original version of Rot was a lot like old Northlane, and might even be my favorite song by them, but the band decided to take it a different direction on Node. Either way I still like this.
|
| |
The original Rot was much better than the studio version for sure, but honestly I doubt they'd sound like this if Adrian was still a part of the band. For starters, the vocals wouldn't be boring like they have been since Marcus came along. They only front to back great thing they've done with Marcus was the split with In Hearts Wake, which had the influence of 11 people writing the music
|
| |
Yeah I'd probably agree that besides the original Rot, the best thing they've done with Marcus is Hologram. But I really like Node for more chill vibes and Singularity for when I want to break shit.
|
| |
I just never find myself coming back to Node, and when I do I immediately regret it
I've listened all the way through Discoveries and Singularity more times than I can recall since they came out, and I'm still not tired of them. Aspire still gives me goosebumps, Dispossession still has me screaming my heart out, Worldbreaker still has me wanting to break shit, etc. Node just doesn't have any emotion for me
|
| |
1. They used the word 'undertow'
2. The production is trash. Muddy, flat guitars
3. Just not good
Singularity was fucking sweet. The intro and scarabs was heavy as dicks and the drumming was sweet. If this is like the last album I'm out.
|
| |
band has been bad since the beginning but at least their roots were admirable at first.
|
| |
I kinda dig the chorus, but the rest is bland indeed.
|
| |
People are still expecting another Discoveries or Singularity after Node came out? Lmao.
Song is ok, I feel like they're reflecting on alt-metal from the 90's and 2000's, similar to Suicide Silence, only Northlane are actually able to pull it off fairly well albeit a bit blandly.
|
| |
Can't listen right now. Any good?
|
| |
Nah
|
| |
ok
|
| |
I don't even know why i bother listening to these new tracks.
|
| |
btw what happened to their old vocalist? Is he in a new band or something?
|
| |
This guy really needs to stop screaming. His cleans are decent, but his screams are downright terrible.
|
| |
Just sounds like Diet Tesseract to me. Boring.
|
| |
"btw what happened to their old vocalist? Is he in a new band or something?"
Destroyed his voice and quit music. He does photography now.
|
| |
"lol how the fuck are the guitarists playing a Strat and Tele for this? If those are the studio instruments used, no wonder the guitars sound like ass"
Don't comment about gear if you don't know about gear
|
| |
lol that's hilarious
|
| |
Sinternet that comment was golden lmao.
|
| |
A custom baritone 7-string Jackson with Bare Knuckle pickups and you make a judgement on it based on how the headstock looks like a regular strat... Jon's been playing ESP telecaster 7-strings at least since the band was still touring for Singularity in 2014.
|
| |
Ah, forgive my ignorance, but the guitars should sound much better then, no?
|
| |
A Snoozefest indeed.
How did the same guitarists that wrote the riffs in Scarab write the ones here?
|
| |
Yea the guitarists definitely got lazier and are using this atmospheric and spacey sound to get away with it
|
| |
at least node was still clearly northlane and had a lot of spacey proggy shit and technical playing at times. this is literally just slighty atmospheric rock with downtuned ass guitars.
|
| |
hahaha yes, for sure. Misha plays Jacksons with Bare Knuckles in Periphery and they are obviously clearer than this.
I think that it's just a stylistic production choice by the band. I think their tone fits their aesthetic and makes it feel grungier and more authentic than a squeaky-clean over produced track.
|
| |
what is with this opening riff? if you didnt tell me this is northlane i wouldnt believe it.
|
| |
yeah boring. not bad and easy on the ears, but boring. production is terrible too.
|
| |
this garbo really makes me miss singularity. wish they'd change their damn band name.
|
| |
better than a lot of the shit pop core that's been comin out. will check next album they put out
|
| |
God this band sucks. There's nothing interesting about them. Literally the definition of generic.
|
| |
every album after Discoveries, they get slightly more boring and worse
|
| |
this is a solid 1/5
|
| |
How do they keep getting worse lmao.
|
| |
"this garbo really makes me miss singularity."
[2]
|
| |
Implying what they play in the clip they recorded with.
Also they play in drop G# yes? Nothing some ridiculous strings and an axe fx can't fix.
|
| |
They're probably under contract to only play ESP and LTD, assuming they are endorsed. A small band like this probably wouldn't be able to be have a contract flexible enough to let them play other brands
But yeah an Axe Fx will make you sound amazing no matter what cheap shit you play lol. I would know lol
|
| |
We have all been there.
I remember this guy I used to jam with bought the first 8 string Ibanez that finally made its way to stores down here. He was playing thru a Line 6 and my god it sounded awful. At the time we thought it was coolest shit ever lol
Eventually he bought an Axe Fx and no matter what we played, what sounds we patched into it, it sounded great. Even if what we were playing was trash.
|
| |
this was boring
|
| |
I'm betting the next release will be better than Node, but these gents set the bar too high with Adrian. Everything with Marcus focuses too much on him, and the progressive brutality has all but disappeared...
|
| |
I love progressive brutality as well. Needs more progressive brutality to ensure the progressive brutality is both progressive and brutal
|
| |
I liked most of Node but this is pretty meh... Hopefully they put more effort into their next LP
|
| |
I enjoyed Node, and I enjoyed this up until the chorus. These guys have a lot of potential though, they just need to use it
|
| |
