Goth Rock band HIM have announced on their facebook page that they are breaking up after a 26 year run. Frontman Ville Valo issued the following statement along with tour dates for their farewell tour, U.S and Finnish tour dates are to be announced.

"After quarter of a century of Love and Metal intertwined we sincerely feel HIM has run its unnatural course and adieus must be said in order to make way for sights, scents and sounds yet unexplored. We completed the pattern, solved the puzzle and turned the key. Thank you."

Would've been nice to see them do one more release to go out on. Definitely gonna try and catch a show if I can.

Long overdue imo. I haven't heard from these guys in ages.

They were always an extremely guilty pleasure for me. Honestly wrote some decent songs but often did it with their heads pretty far up their asses.

Guess there was no more denying the dry cracked ground at the bottom of their collective creative well for another year.
Might catch them in November to finally put a gravestone on some fond if somewhat embarassing memories.

Did not expect this to happen, they seemed like that band who could go on and release the same albums forever and have success.

The adolescent in me cries. I will jam Venus Doom and sob.

I guess they couldn't fool themselves long enough, "Tears On Tape" was not even a re-tread, it was literally a collection of throwaway pastiches of Razorblade Romance tracks

26 years? Damn. I used to be way too into these guys. My friend (female) also told me that she thought of Valo's voice as a "panty dropper."

That said, I still jam a few of their tunes, but not many. Congrats to them for making it so long and ending it on their terms though.

Sad to see them go, but I agree the band has run its course. They had a streak of 5 solid albums but the quality was inconsistent after Dark Light.

I could listen to Love Metal all day. What a good fucking album.

I don't think bam and ville even get along much anymore so doubt he cares.

I used to listen to the first album quite a bit, but I never bothered with any of their other material.

Venus Doom was their last great album and together with Love Metal their best stuff.

Razorblade Romance was everyone's favorite album for awhile when I was in high school.

But yeh, Love Metal was def their best.

I was hoping they'd release at least one more album and tour for it. I've always wanted to catch them, but they never play around here...

Here's hoping this tour gets a nice US run.

HIM in a nutshell: Viva La Bam, mall bandshirt melodrama, one good song in a sea of boring eye gunk nothingness.
