Overall, sounds pretty promising. Songs will average at over 6 and a half minutes, though, which makes me a bit hesitant; very few bands, especially at this point in their careers, can pull something like this off. Taking the Iron Maiden route might not work too well for them.

Since this band got me into metal when i bought master of puppets on cassette in 93, and loved them ever since, my opinion might come off as a little bias.... Well for starters, we'd compare it to the rest of their discog; their first four albums did the same style but with more energy and better songwriting (this is basically the same style they've been using since the 80's, but bear bones and stripped to 3 minutes).

To go further, we'd compare it to basically any other thrash album in existence, by which it--in 2016--appears by comparison to be fairly generic. Now, being generic in style isn't awful as long as the style is well-executed (see: basically every popular/acclaimed melodeath band), buuuuuut I think you'd have a tough time arguing that about this particular track. Drums don't sound great (where's the bass drum?), lyrics are typical lulzy modern Metallica, guitars don't have a *great* sound (better than Death Magnetic, but not amazingly good), and the soloing was fairly uninteresting.

On top of that, the song (as I said before) just sounds like a dumbed down version of their latter-day 80's material, missing all the prog fanciness that made them the top dogs they were. The average song-length seems to come out as a little under 7-minutes, though, so hopefully this is just one of the shorter tracks and they haven't totally dumbed down their songwriting in some attempt at capturing the raw minimalism of tr00 thrash.

Just Re-release the Black album and Tour on that for another 6 to 8 years...What a disappointing song. DM 2 here we go!

Metallica have no idea how to produce albums, people are so surprised that this sounds awful. It's because Lars and James insist on micromanaging every aspect of the albums sound. RTL and MOP were the only 2 good sounding albums they ever made in terms of production. Even the Bob Rock stuff sounded overproduced.
They should not be allowed to mix full stop.

James as a vocalist is probably one of the most musically and comically entertaining things I can think of, especially Damaged Justice tour - present. Not to mention he was fucking ferocious on Kill em All and No life till Leather.

OK. On first listen I wasn't really into it. Thought it was just OK. On second listen I'm liking it more. Once that riff switches up, the song picks up steam and it starts getting real good IMO.

Despite any other criticism, I've had the song stuck in my head for almost two days now.

The verses are so bad...It's like Hetfield recorded them in 10 minutes and didn't bother again

These days artwork is a non-issue. Metallica just brings out the hyper-critical bitches in a way no other band can.

Pretty good, as someone that likes all-eras of Metallica (except that one time....).

Generic riff and kick drum is terrible (drum triggers are bad, mmmkay), but I like the overall sound and production. Much improved from Death "Brickwall" Magnetic. Preordered the vinyl.
