Not mentioned in the article, this will be their final album.
|
| |
you can already read the first two paragraphs of every review of this album in your head
|
| |
Yeah, kinda missing the point here - this is the last album.
|
| |
Also I go to school in Jacksonville so if they do what Anberlin did and have a final tour with the last show in their hometown it's gonna be beyond amazing.
|
| |
cant wait for the hyperbolic 4.5/5 reviews for this.
|
| |
The track is trying so hard to be a "this is our farewell anthem" kinda track
It only half works
3/5
|
| |
Doesn't sound much better than Lift A Sail. Weird because I loved Southern Air.
Shame they couldn't get LP back for this, they really lost their edge without him.
|
| |
farewell albums are always trying too hard to be sappy and "WOW THIS SUCKS DOESNT IT" lyrically and in sound.
at least Anberlin had it figured out by just making another album.

"Shame they couldn't get LP back for this, they really lost their edge without him."
The drumming's not the problem. They got Nate Young from Anberlin and Tucker Rule from Thursday, and they're both incredible.
|
| |
"at least Anberlin had it figured out by just making another album."
Well, they were pretty heart-on-their-sleeve about it ("I don't want to go now, but I've got to" and "We will live forever," anyone?). But sonically yeah it was their most experimental. It felt like Anberlin just said "eh screw it let's do whatever we want."
I just want a few up-tempo punk-pop tunes and not another full album of mid tempo laziness like Lift a Sail.
|
| |
Sorry, I shouldve made it clear and said sonically. They had a good mixture of their more electronic sound and some of their earlier rock edge with a lot more experimental styling that made it a unique record that could've easily just been a "next step" record if they didnt decide to disband then and there.

Full statement AND final tour dates at http://yellowcardrock.com
|

This is barely even pop punk anymore. Tries too hard to be anthemic.
|
| |
it sounds like theyre just trying to get it over with
|
| |
Album's gonna be a hard 2.5 or soft 3 confirmed if it keeps on like this.
|
| |
The song was released before the breakup announcement. So that's why I didn't add it.
But god damn it, I was so happy too.
EDIT: Tweaked the article, hopefully this suffices
|
| |
Well
Inb4 Sowing has heart palpitations.
|
| |
good
they suck anyways
|
| |
you suck dude why don't you call it quits.
|
| |
surprising no-one
last album was weak as hell
|
| |
"they suck anyways"
Bro, I have part of "Only One" inked on my arm
Don't do this to me man
|
| |
goodbye to another flaccid, boring, unimportant band of semi-catchy bullshit with no lasting power
|
| |
I'm pretty ok with this.
|
| |
Fucking finally
|
| |
'I never heard of ya. Don't even care.'
|
| |
Good.
|
| |
"farewell albums are always trying too hard to be sappy and "WOW THIS SUCKS DOESNT IT" lyrically and in sound. at least Anberlin had it figured out by just making another album."
The comment about Anberlin is bullshit. Half that album is a swansong goodbye
|
| |
Is sowing too devastated to comment? Poor guy
|
| |
Inb4 Sowing rips
|
| |
"The comment about Anberlin is bullshit. Half that album is a swansong goodbye."
Lyrically maybe. But the songwriting is far more composed and way more tasteful than just about any farewell album that advertises itself as one.
|
| |
Will always have a soft spot for these guys, even if they went out on a whimper (potentially)
Kinda saw this coming tbh
|
| |
i think they should just remaster Midget Tossing and call it a day.
|
| |
Southern Air is one of my favorite albums of all time. Really got me into this band. Sad news, but they've been around a long time so it's not too surprising.
|
| |
Well now my first comment looks kinda stupid lol
|
| |
Eh. Outside of the pandering context it's an okay track.
|
| |
Good news
|
| |
kris ain't going to be pleased
|
| |
never cared about this band, but my heart goes out to sowing and kris
|
| |
Gonna start a kickstarter for Sowing's heart surgery
Considering it's gonna break after this
|
| |
Thank God
|
| |
I knew it when I saw that album cover and the fact that it's self-titled...
|
| |
last album is gonna be dope
|
| |
not much of a surprise but sucks nonetheless. top 10 pop punk bands for me easily
|
| |
Edit: yeah not good joke tbh. Just uncalled for poking at the band
|
| |
I don't get people celebrating when a band breaks up.
Seriously, if you don't like it then why does it matter if they exist or not, just don't listen to it?
|
| |
DAE SOWING SAAAD XDDDDD??????
|
| |
Honestly, they should've broke up after paper walls, up until then this band had four solid records on a row. Ever since they came back from the hiatus, they've been trying too much to capture the success of Ocean Avenue, I think. Maybe that's why I can't get into their later albums, heck, they even remake ocean avenue acoustic with mixed results.
As someone else mentioned, this song sounds like this album will attempt to be a flashy/bombastic goodbye to their career, and it does sound forced. With all that said, I don't get the hate for this band, they're just fun pop punk and they have some catchy tunes indeed. Sucks to hear they're breaking up without ever trying something ambitious like on lights and sounds, but they had a good run I guess.
|
| |
Didn't know they were still going. They had a good run.
|
| |
This band never failed to make me smile, until now.
|
| |
At least I'll see them on warped
|
| |
Least the album's out on my birthday. Yellowcard's had a good run for the most part. Sucks they're breaking up, but I guess they had to do it sooner or later.
|
| |
i wasnt a big fan of their last album (thought it wasn't bad; 3/5) but Yellowcard seemed like the kind of band that would keep on going forever, and with Southern Air and When You're Through Thinking standing as very recent achievements in their discography, i was sure they'd be able to strike gold yet again. shame to see them gone.
new song is enjoyable.
|
| |
If this is supposed to be their final album, then WHY isn't LP back to drum on this? At least close out with ONE person who was a founding member of the group.
Granted, I'm aware of how things can change - it's just the first thing that popped into my head. All things considered, the track they released is still good. I'm very much looking forward to this album and all the Yellowcard goodness that comes from it. I'm not expecting it to be as good as their previous efforts, or as surprisingly passable like Lift a Sail, but I'll take something (give or take with inspired writing) over nothing.
I'm glad that we all were able to at least experience Yellowcard. Our memories tied to various songs from the catalog chapters that either have been a part of our lives.
|
| |
Jesus Christ, I forgot why I hated Sputnik so much. Thanks for the reminder.
I haven't heard their latest after Southern Air, since I didn't like the title track from their latest (the one before this farewell one).
I don't like this single either, so I'll pass. Bye Yellowcard, maybe I'll catch the farewell show in Pomona. I wonder if I can grab a friend to come with me.
|
| |
Why do you people celebrate a band like this quitting? No one's making you listen to their music, it's not really on the radio so you don't have to hear it anyway.
Also , just cause a band quits doesn't mean their music disappears off the planet.
I will never understand you cynical fools
|
| |
Band have been shit since lights and sounds.
|
| |
Brace yourselves
The hyperbolic 5/5s and 4.5/5s are coming
|
| |
Thanks for Ocean Avenue
|

For real
|

Watching the clip of Ocean Avenue makes me feel nostalgic
|
| |
What tcat said
[3]
Seriously
|
| |
They had a great run!
|
| |
Read this and was like whaaaaaaaat??? 😐
|
| |
I really liked this single actually. Last album I liked from them was southern air
|
| |
🤷 ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Is this really that big a deal?
|
| |
It'd be like if Reel Big Fish or something broke up
|
| |
Reel Big Fish need to break up for real tho, i can only tolerate "young and angry" ska punk pop records for so long.
|
| |
They'll come back in 4 years
(first stage: denial)
|
| |
dont worry sowing, we're here for you.
|
| |
they probably will get back eventually. most groups do
|
| |
Sowing was only off by 2 years
