Polyphia release/stream album

Texas instrumental rock outfit Polyphia have now released their new record "Renaissance" on March 11 and have decided to stream it on their YouTube channel. This album showcases a building on the sound of 2015's "Muse" with exploring a bit more darkness thematically.

Didn't like this one as much as Muse

Ugh I liked them when they came out with Envision, and their song with Chon is pretty sweet but other than that everything else sounds exactly the same.

I should like this but it's filled the the brim with so much wankery it makes me sick.

Shit, didn't even know a new one was coming. Probably right about the homogeneous wankery, but I like it as background noise for video games or browsing. Wouldn't sit and concentrate too hard on it though. Super talented guys, but creatively they need to expand a little.

Probably passing on this. Sounds boring. They should've kept some of their heaviness to mix it up

I've actually been enjoying this a good deal, it definitely functions well as background music, but I think it can stand on its own too

Yeah, these guys are extremely talented, but there's no reason to play every lick ever written in every single song. I love guitar wankery, but there's only so much Polyphia I can take in a sitting.

You guys are nuts. Yea this album is technical but I'd hardly use the word "wankery" to describe it. These comments make it sound like it's a Rusty Cooley solo album, which it's not. Shit is tasteful af

HONESTLY, it's a bit more tasteful than a lot of their other stuff. Very pretty. But I generally stray from both these guys and Chon's VERY clean, idiosyncratic playing. I prefer something a little gnarlier in terms of instrumental stuff.

I thought this was the band that used to call themselves oceana at first.

Yeah, I second that you guys are nuts. This is really tasteful and melodic, the guitar really sings. It's one of the things that draws me to this album, I HATE wankery.

Listened to a few tracks and it's definitely less self-indulgent than their earlier work, and a lot less "metal" too. Very tasteful. Probably not enough to hold my attention for too long though. But nice stuff. Lots of character to the leads.

i really don't think it's that wanky at all, especially compared to a lot of shit people really dig here

Like it a lot, more dynamic than their older stuff IMO. Definitely still a bit wanky, but there's a few new things (for them) on the album. I find most of the tracks are easily identifiable.
