Zappa concert film unleashed

2015-09-18 by Onirium | 15 Comments
The release of Roxy: The Movie, a concert film by experimental rocker Frank Zappa produced in 1973 has been announced and scheduled for October 30. Filmed over three nights at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood, the film was written, directed, conducted and originally produced by Zappa himself, and features his backing band, The Mothers of Invention.

Music from those concerts had previously been revealed in 1974 with the live Roxy & Elsewhere album, but, with the exception of a 30-minute segment unveiled in 2007, footage of the shows has stayed unreleased for over 40 years.

According to Eagle Rock Entertainment, who will be releasing the concert on DVD and Blu-Ray, Roxy: The Movie contains performances of "some of Zappa's most challenging instrumentals"; detailed information regarding the musical contents of the film has yet to be revealed.

A 2-minute trailer for the film was released earlier this week.

This looks like it could be really good. I wonder if a full setlist can be found anywhere.

Hope the solo that was later graphed into Inca Roads is on here, because I know it came from the Roxy concerts.

Inca Roads solo was not recorded from this run. It was taken from Helsinki '73. The Roxy Inca Roads will be a lounge version.

"can there please be a moratorium on the word "unleashed" "

Oh there could, but who'd vote for the suspension of such an evocative term?
