Defeater stream new album

2015-08-25 by Eldar777 | 38 Comments
American melodic hardcore storytellers Defeater have released an official stream of their new album, Abandoned. The album is due out August 28 via Epitaph. As written on the record label's page new LP follows the same story arc as the rest of the albums and 'chronicles the story of a lapsed Catholic priest, whose battles in Europe during the war drag him first toward faith and then his own poisonous faithlessness' and ends with 'a plot twist no one expected'.

I agree but damn this sounds so uninspired next to Travels, Lost Ground and even Empty Days.

band definitely petered out after the lost ground ep, but this is better than letters home by a long shot. I miss the Travels days when they played basements with La dispute before they both started sucking

Better than Letters Home but still not great. Really disappointed by their nosedive in quality. There is just no energy on this. Hard to believe the same band put out Travels, Lost ground and Empty Days.

Definitely an improvement on their last album.
Have to give it a couple listens before I decide how much I like it.

I had no idea they were even making a new album. I'm expecting a 2.5-3 based on the fact that some of you are saying it's better than Letters Home so... yay...?

Not really expecting greatness since I'm not too big on melodic hardcore but i'll check anyways. Who knows may be surprised ;]

the drum playing is fine but that's got to be one of the worst tones I've ever heard
when he does multi piece rolls it just sounds like a garbled mess
like in Spared in Hell goddamn

I feel like they've offered everything they could have conjured up with this sound in their first couple albums. It's too repetitious now..

This story should have been hung up after Empty Days - I mean it was already getting a bit tired by that point.

They need to ditch this goddamn dumb world war 2 concept and make an actual album

I'm really disappointed, even as someone who enjoyed Letters Home. The drums sound awful and there's hardly any emotion, desperation or energy to the sound anymore
