I guess we can all quit bitching about how Cope didn't have a softer side now.

"honestly cope's biggest problem was just weaker songwriting imo"

This. Some enjoyable tracks on Cope and even on this rehashed version but overall doesn't stack up to any of the previous albums.

Cope honestly isn't bad. It just fails to live up to the absurd expectations following Simple Math.

the problem with Cope was mixing/general suffocating production, so this sounds promising

they also need to play a god damn Vancouver show. they had one announced for the days right before that Alaska date from a while back but it disappeared a few months before the show with no explanation. do they ever play western Canada?

Listening to the new Top Notch now...I like their softer side but these songs so far are just pretty arrangements with no energy. So far it sounds like the drummer is sitting this one out.

the songs that were good already on Cope like Every Stone and Girl Harbor aren't really done justice on this...but the songs that lacked like The Mansion and Choose You are better in this form.

I thought the end of every stone was breathtaking and I dug girl harbor. Thought it had nice layers.

The worst thing about Cope was the godawful production it just bothers me so much

I agree with Aids and Crawl, the production on Cope is just way off, the songs sound like crap. They do seem like a step down in terms of songwriting, but I'm actually looking forward to hearing this. I'm pretty sure that at least some songs work better like this.

i dont necessarily think this is better than COPE but my god it's like a completely different album. the arrangements are way more layered than I thought they'd be.

Wasn't so thrilled about Cope when it first came out but it grew on me a lot. Better than Simple Math at least, that record was a pretty big disappointment for me (though still a 3 at least, I'm a big MO fan in general). I'll definitely check out Hope just out of curiosity at the very least
