Yes Reveal New Album Details

2014-04-03 by Onirium | 30 Comments
Recently, legendary progressive rock band Yes announced details about their upcoming 21st studio album, officially entitled "Heaven and Earth." The band recorded the new record between January and March, and scheduled a release on 8 July of this year.

"Heaven and Earth" will be the band's first album with new singer Jon Davison, who took the role of vocalist after Benoît David left Yes. Davison states that the new album will have eight tracks and will be produced and mixed by veteran producer Roy Thomas Baker and engineered by ex-Yes member Billy Sherwood.

Bassist Chris Squire stated that Davison "has contributed very strongly to [the new album] in terms of writing, both musically and lyrically [...] he has pretty much written all the lyrics for this album". Here is the lineup for "Heaven and Earth":

Jon Davison – lead vocals
Steve Howe – guitars, backing vocals
Chris Squire – bass, backing vocals
Geoff Downes – keyboards
Alan White – drums, percussion

Why do we have to be so cynical about new albums from old bands? Let's just enjoy it when it comes out.

Well, anyone can see that comments are a little more positive than they were at the last article announcing that Yes would be recording a new album. All I can say is that I stay positive, even though I haven't checked their recent work.

I my opinion, Fly From Here was their best album in 30 years. Not CttE quality, but at least Drama
quality. The t/t and Into the Storm were some really great tracks, and Benoît David's vocals did the
job a lot better than I expected. Definitely a 4 in my opinion. I have hope for this one, but I think
it'll sound more like an imitation of Fragile than anything else, as the new singer sings a lot like
Anderson. Plus, the name "Heaven and Earth" is like too much. I'm guessing a 3 or 3.5
