New Swans album details

2014-01-27 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 57 Comments
Swans upcoming record, To Be Kind is scheduled to be released on May 13 through Michael Gira's imprint Young God and Mute Records. The effort will include special guests such as St. Vincent, Cold Specks, Little Annie and Bill Rieflin. Some of the songs were conceived and played during their 2012/2013 tours and finished later in the studio.

To Be Kind will be released as a triple vinyl, double CD and a deluxe double CD edition, which will feature a live DVD. Gira is also thinking of a USB stick/flashdrive with special packaging for the record to be listened to as a whole without interruption, as it clocks at over 2 hours.

I actually loved The Seer, but yeah... pulling off a 2-hour album twice in a row isn't easy. Still looking forward to this, though.

Sure this'll be another long, challenging mountain of an album but isn't that a good thing? Music should be something you wrestle with and take a while to digest, not 40 mins of instant gratification that you guys can stream once and then rate

on a serious note, no, SOME music should be something you wrestle with and take a while to digest... like Swans for instance... so you are right there... but thats just a niche. Instantly gratifying music is its own. And just because Swans are inherently not instantly gratifying doesn't mean that all of their albums will result in gratification after INTENSE DEBILITATING STUDY

excuse my hyperbole, but I was just gettin' on yo level

Okay good point, that was a sweeping statement that dismisses pop music altogether. What I meant to say was that for most people I've ever spoken to, music that takes ages to sink in ends up meaning more than instantly appealing stuff. Swans are such a band, and always have been. Pretty much all of their material is a chore in some way, particularly in their early days and very recently. People complaining about the length or other inaccessible facets of Swans' albums are listening to the wrong band
