Canadian Live Music Petition

2013-09-01 by NBA | 46 Comments
The Canadian government has caused a bit of a stir with their new regulations affecting the price venues pay for their live acts. According to the Calgary Herald, many smaller venues like coffee shops and bars will have to pay up to four times the amount to put up international artists. Application fees of $275 per musician and crew along with an extra $150 for each approved application are among the changes expected to pass.

The website change.org has started a petition for those who would rather not this happen and along with more details on the issue can be accessed here:

Heard about this before, bullshit. I don't know how much sway these online petitions have but I signed and shared.

Nope it's not a joke, this is for real and I live in the most populated city in the country so I would be utterly devastated if this happened.

Unbelievable really.

All the younger and more progressive crowd voted NDP. Its just most people are on to their bullshit and don't vote, therefore the old folks have substantial numbers. Also, there is new evidence that proves the cons rigged the election.

I've always voted and supported NDP. I might have to go Liberal for this next election though just because Trudeau might actually be able to oust Harper.

Doesn't matter which political party is in power, rich politicians will fuck the lower and middle classes because ultimately they don't care about us. Anyone hoping that Trudeau or any other shithead politician will be any different from Harper needs to wake up.

Or the cowardly felatio he performs on China by letting them invest in them after he said he never would.

I have nothing against the Chinese people, but no one should enable their insane government.

Class A tool.

Those smear campaigns on Justin Trudeau really took shots at discrediting Canadian politics in a huge way as well (not to mention the comments about Quebec were completely out of context, have some respect for the intelligence of your country's citizens). I'm getting sick of being represented by a bunch of greedy corporate sheep.

I don't fall for the obvious trickery but I worked on an interview with Justin Trudeau last year and it's no surprise why
people like the guy, he cried in front of everyone. Also the marijuana legalization thing is huge right now. I try to keep my
nose out of politics but it seems this fellow has some pretty strong support.

they're all shitheads but I don't care; elect someone who will stop the tar sands. it's kind of fucked how no one is talking about the most environmentally destructive project ever conducted by humankind. that's some grade-A greenwashing right there.

They're trying to make it that paid musicians have to pay like $500 dollars per member to play shows.

I'm referring to "Or the cowardly felatio he performs on China by letting them invest in them after he said he never would." and "they're all shitheads but I don't care; elect someone who will stop the tar sands.".

It's equivalent to someone trying to shove religion down our throats. I'm not saying any of them are wrong, just be respectful of how others feel.

I don't care if I offend anyone on the other end of that argument. Go pound sand.

If you think it's ok to poison our land/people while supporting a corrupt government that neglects the health and safety of its citizens and suppresses freedom of speech with torture and persecution then you can blow it out your ass.

EDIT: that's not even drawing attention to the fact that Canada as a whole essentially lacks any culture whatsoever. we're just a melting pot that sucks the D of the American media lol

Jesus Christ! If you want to prove a point, anger and insults are not the solutions. Also, when did I tell you what my stances on particular political issues were? I didn't. If you must know, I agree with stopping the tar sands. Do I need to throw that in everyone face unannounced? No, I don't.

Stop being over dramatic and learn a thing or two about manners.
