|
| |
*fanboy explodes all over the place*
Cover art is about what I expected: simple and with the DT logo.
Tracklist seems good. Can't wait to hear False Awakening Suite and The Illumination Theory, always loved their multi-part epics.
|
| |
When they do anything to do with sleep it fukin rules
|
| |
"what a terrible year for prog metal"
Dude new Cynic comes out this year what ya on abart?
Also, interesting track names. Expecting a 20+ minute epic on 'ere.
|
| |
drummerboy which song are you gonna cover first on your DRUMS
|
| |
Also, I could make that cover art in photoshop in about 5 mins.
Simple, but lazy, Was expecting something a but more out there.
|
| |
does that mean all of em
|
| |
Drummerboy123, right, my bad
|
| |
Almost certain to be average
|
| |
i'll fight you dude
|
| |
drummerboy which song are you gonna cover first on your DRUMS
LOL
|
| |
Track names have me very intrigued, probably the most prog metal sounding names they've had in a while. False awakening suite and illumination theory I think will be awesome.
Also, I dig the cover. It's simple, yes, but has an edge of mystery and suits the fact it's self titled. I prefer it to ADTOE's cover.
|
| |
no ill fight ya KILL, then we can have a few beers
|
| |
bloody good show mate
|
| |
Yep. Dream Theater.
|
| |
"drummerboy which song are you gonna cover first on your DRUMS"

| |
burrrrrn you know I pronounced it as Hacken forever it's actually pronounced as Hacon lol.
|
| |
should have just called it DT
|
| |
Their last album is one of their best. Breaking All Illusions, Outcry, and Bridges in the sky were all epic songs. I hope this one is just as good if not better.
|
| |
Last album was exactly what I wanted (a return to form after Portnoy kept trying to push them in other directions) hopefully this one has a bit more experimentation and more prog than metal.
|
| |
We'll see. If this isn't a hell of a lot better than the last one I will just give up on the band
|
| |
I am excited to see if they improve on the drumming. Mangini in ADTOE was completely competent, but he was missing the flair of early Portnoy. Hoping that we can see what he is really capable of here. I am wondering why they are producing a self-titled album for their 12th album...
|
| |
I have high hopes for this.
|
| |
Anyone else think the album cover looks like an ad for a luxury car?
|
| |
the question is, will this be just bad, or hilariously bad?
also WOW that album art is douchey
|
| |
it wont quite be project 86 lvl sadly
|
| |
Is everyone on this site 13?
|
| |
i'm 47 so no
|
| |
Enjoyed these guys' noodlings and aimless 16 minute songs when I was in college...haven't heard anything I've liked in a long time though. Doubt this will be different, sorry Kill.
I'll still listen, of course, in case it's the second coming of Scenes From a Memory. That shit ruled.
|
| |
I'm very looking forward to this one. This album is now really the new rebirth of DT.
John Myung wrote some lyrics again, there is an instrumental track, I feel pretty good about this.
|
| |
Just so long as this album isn't heavily dominated by Petrucci, it should be better in some way. From what I heard, the lyrics are more balanced and now Mangini is involved in writing the music as well.
|
| |
There is already good signs about this album: Epic opener, epic closer, instrumental, Myung lyrics, Mangini involved.
No doubt there will be several gems on this disc, but the question is, will there also be duds? Every DT album since Scenes has had some dud songs, which is arguably one of the primary reasons why every album post-Scenes are inferior to Images, Awake, and Scenes--inconsistency.
|
| |
Will be amazing. 5/5
|
| |
I will get this
|
| |

This. Except I honestly thought ADTOE was one of their most consistent releases in a long time. (with Breaking All Illusions being the obvious standout)
|
| |
hey i added this album to the database how come it got deleted DAMN YOU MODS
|
| |
"This. Except I honestly thought ADTOE was one of their most consistent releases in a long time. (with Breaking All Illusions being the obvious standout)"
The dud in ADTOE is BMU,BMD by far.
|
| |
'The dud in ADTOE is BMU,BMD by far.'
Kind of true, it's definitely weaker than the others and it was actually recorded after the other songs as a bit of an afterthought to add another "metal" song to the album.
Saying that, I do dig it and the short keyboard solo 2/3 though is cool, plus it's way better than the singles on the previous few such as "I Walk Beside You", "Constant Motion", "Wither" etc
|
| |
Apart from Wither, Black Clouds was their best form in a long time imo
|
| |
^ It was a great album I agree. "Count" is awesome. It's odd because on the DT fansites they consider ADTOE to be the best since Six Degrees, but Sput seems to have the opposite opinion.
I really liked it. People bash the ballads but I dug them and the drumming but it was still better than the drumming on the majority of other metal releases tbh. Also, it was nice to have an album not so metal oriented and more melodic in nature. Just my opinion, I'm well aware most here don't share it.
|
| |
I especially love the musicallity of Black Clouds the most in the post-Scenes DT collection the most. However, some of the lyrics are rather divorced in comparison to their earlier works.
|
| |
^^ yep.
|
| |
Although my expectations are low, I really hope they prove me wrong.
|
| |
will suck go figure
|
| |
Have hope for this album. Let's hope DT go in a different direction though I know that is very unlikely.
|
| |
"Apart from Wither, Black Clouds was their best form in a long time imo"
This.
|
| |
It was their best since 6 Degrees
|
| |
6 degrees -> Black Clouds = 9 years. Long enough to be honest.
|
| |
I feel like the only person who didn't care for Black Clouds.. It wasn't horrible, but I can live
without it.. I was glad that they didn't play anything from it the most recent time I saw them live.
I did enjoy Count of Tuscany, but a lot of the songs sounded forced and it took their cheesy lyrics to
a whole new level. It was at least their most consistent in a while though, so that was good.
|
| |
Will probably be average like their last one
pity
|
| |
their most pretentious song titles yet
|
| |
you must have faith tyrael
|
| |
Song titles seem in the norm, really.
Apart from Wither, Black Clouds was their best form in a long time imo
Wither was still great imo. I love the solo in it.
|
| |
I agree Black Clouds was pretty amazing.
|
| |
Plebster49

"Apart from Wither, Black Clouds was their best form in a long time imo"
