Chiodos New Material

2013-05-13 by iGuter | 37 Comments
After a year of touring with Craig Owens reunited with the band, the band has finally begun writing new material. They have confirmed this with a long message.

One year and two weeks after the announcement of our reunion shows, we are finally able to say that we have decided to move forward collectively as a band.

When we posted the “Let’s Do This” video on April 26th of last year, our intentions were to take this journey slowly without destination and finally do things the right way this time around. With tensions high and a lot of heavy conversations still to be had, we decided to play shows together in an attempt to bring closure to our situation and to rekindle the friendships that we had shared since our mid-teens. We had no intentions of moving forward as a band, but only the unspoken hopes of doing so.

This journey has not been an easy one, but it has finally come to its next chapter. We have all had to take the proper measures in both our personal and interpersonal relationships to make this not only work, but to make sure that it continues with the longevity that we all hope for. After fighting our way through heavy conversations, relearning to make music together, numerous litigations including finding a new home and team for the band and adding a new piece to the already complicated Chiodos puzzle, it’s no wonder it has taken a year to get there.

We began to write new music at the beginning of this year, in hopes that it wouldn’t unwravel what it is that we had worked so hard to rebuild. Thankfully, it has only brought us closer together and has focused us on one goal: to make a new Chiodos album that we will be proud of for our entire lifetimes.

Concluding a 2-month long writing session in March/April. We believe that we have most of the new record written and everything else has fallen into place the right way. We plan to record the album after this summer’s Vans Warped Tour, and also release music shortly after recording it.

We’re not writing this to bore you, or to tell you things that you already know… We are writing this to say that we hear your cries for new music, we see your eager faces and that we share in your excitement for the first moment new Chiodos hits your ears. It’s coming. And Soon.

-Craig, Brad, Pat, Matt, Derrick and Thomas

I'm more interested in hearing Thomas Erak's playing than hearing Craig Owens again.

I liked the previous guy. Not too sure with this singer (since I've never listened to other Chiodos albums) but we shall see.

Illuminaudio was this band's best album and it was subpar at best. Way too repetitive

I've never been into Chiodos, but I too am interested to hear what Thomas does here. Even though I haven't really liked anything he's done after releasing 'Unlikely Event'.

- If for whatever reason his opinion manages to change then, he has the ability to alter the rating to reflect his new opinion. Nifty little feature offered in this site.

I just find it funny that so many of the annoying little scene girls stopped caring after craig left, but now that he's back, they're like omigaw again.

I saw em live with both vocalists, liked Brandon better.

I figured the inclusion of Erak meant they had obviously been working on new material otherwise why the fuck join the band? Worthless news. I couldn't give two shits about this band but now that Erak is a member, I am going to be highly anticipating their next album

Thomas is probably going to write some poppy riffs, just as he did on the last TFoT album and on Just Like Vinyl. Here's hoping for some guitar wankery, though!

I didn't know Thomas Erak joined. That's pretty awesome. Can't wait to hear what he writes. I hope he get to contribute his vocals too.

And to the people saying Brandon was so much better than Craig, I really disagree. He may have a more "tolerable" voice, but he sounded awful live, his voice was pretty bland, and his lyrics were pretty awful. At least Craig is pretty consistent and he can write good lyrics. Actually Craig's lyrics are the best thing about him.

That joke is the exact reason that just had this design made:

the whole thomas joining thing is complete bullshit. the band is awful, he should have gotten TFOT back together and made doppelganger type shit again. he'll probably just write boring shitty post hardcore riffs for these guys.

tldr im bitter

D.R.U.G.S. was the only thing I've ever liked that Craig has done, so I have low expectations for this. Doubt it will come close to Illuminaudio.

D.R.U.G.S. was fucking horrid. Worst Craig project. He put out some really solid stuff with Chiodos and with the inclusion of Erak you can consider me interested/stoked.

Band will likely be nothing without Jason Hale. He wrote actually interesting riffs. Erak's well of talent is dried up, as he showed on "In the Unlikely Event" and everything Just Like Vinyl released. I'll give it a listen, but my hopes are basically nonexistent.
