You guys really tricked me. I thought Woe was some serious hipster metal like Deafheaven or Skagos or something, so I listened to Quietly, Undramatically. The album is really just raw black metal with a slight twist. Definitely not hipster bm. What a disappointment.

Are they hipster for shunning corpse paint or what? The album didn't seem so hipster to me. There was a little acoustic guitar and some sparse cleans, but for the most part they follow trad black metal formula

I think I get it. It's because they're posers affecting a grim image. But, wouldn't Fenriz and Nocto be hipsters then?

In fact, wouldn't Varg and maybe Gaahl (lol) and maybe Wrest be the only true black metallers?

I get it when it comes to bands like Krallice, Deafheaven and Liturgy. Woe gets lumped in with those bands, but I think it's more for their look and fanbase than for the actual music. But I'm no bm expert so I probably don't know what I'm talking about. I guess naming your band "Woe" doesn't help.

my opinion of this band is purely on their music which sucks

i mean its obvious that theyre "hipster bm" but there are good bands that get labeled like that, these guys just blow hard dick

I was kinda digging this new album until the emo part in song 4. I don't think there's any coming back from that.

Hype, 'Quietly, Undramatically' is definitely not hipster metal, in my opinion at least. A lot of these members come from fairly well respected NA BM bands. I could understand why you may not like the sound, as it's honestly nothing new, but I just like them for the way they deliver it. I saw these guys live in Philly a few years ago, and I have to say they were pretty damn good, was a very raw performance. I haven't listened to the new album yet, but I'm sure it won't live up to the previous. I think the band hit it's peak there.

Usually BM that's described as "trve" or "kvlt" or some nerdy shit like that will end up sucking balls.

Vocals has never been this guy's strong suit, but the instrumentation is usually pretty good.
