This record is better than Grace For Drowning. It would've been cooler if he took these ideas to make a Porcupine Tree record, but it would've ended up way different, because the members in his solo act have different leanings.

is it pretentious

The video is really meaningful, and fits very well with the music in my opinion. To be honest though the music is nice and flowery but it also tries your patience at times. I mean, if it wasn't for the video backing the music up I might just have turned the song off halfway through. Nonetheless I'll listen to the album when it's released, and I guess because it's something of a conceptual record I'll have to listened to the whole album without any distractions to grasp what Wilson is really 'getting at'.

| |
How does he manage to shit out so much and still have it be this kind of quality
|
| |
Man...that was pretty amazing.
|
| |
video is cool and song fits but tbh I don't find the song that good.
|
| |
Cool video and song. I love pretentious music and videos.

Love the little smile on the old man's face at the end

Never listened to Wilson's solo stuff before apart from his cover of Cardiacs' "Stoneage Dinosaurs" (or Porcupine Tree at that, really should) but thought this was really good. Will check out the full album.

I thought the song was great, but not sure about the video.
|
| |
Boring song and even more boring video

Boring comment, boring opinion.
Not as boring as hybrid theory and all of those embarrassing Blink 182 records...
|

Good song and vid bloc is a dummy
|

I just thought it sounded like a shit Radiohead.
|
| |
Beautiful song. meh video
|
| |
Drag Ropes video > this, just 'cause it felt like a drugged out burton short.
|
| |
Wilson is amazing. I don't not like anything he's put out.
|
| |
Also, that video was the tits.
|
| |
@Lord Hugo
I thought the same thing when I heard it. It's good, but it sounds like something from the Amnesiac/Hail To the Thief era of Radiohead. It's good though, and the album is good too. The rest of the songs have a very Yes/King Crimson feel to though.
|
| |
Since Yes, King Crimson and Porcupine Tree are some of my favorite bands, nothing bad can come from this for me. ^
|
| |
@Zamora
Same goes for me, and that's why I liked this album. He takes some of the best influences from those bands. It's got King Crimson's Jazz fusion (1 song though) and folk tendencies, epic Chris Squire-esque bass lines, and even trippy Rush synths.
That's 'The Raven' in a nutshell.

| |
Sounds like a semi-tribute to everything i loved about classic prog. From what i have heard (Luminol live, which was amazing, and this song) this could be way better than Grace For Drowning.
You've already heard it all, Paperback? Lucky... or did it leak or something?
|
| |
It's better than 'Grace', I guess, I would say so. "Luminol" kicks ass, my favourite next to "The Holy Drinker". It leaked a while back, and I was able to get a copy. I think you might still be able to find it, let me know if you can't.
|
| |
Found it already, but thanks anyways. I think my favorite is "The Watchmaker"; the ending is incredible. "The Holy Drinker" is also pretty awesome.
Even though i've heard it once full, i can already say that i enjoyed this more than Grace.
|
| |
Grace was good and Insurgentes was great too, but I'd say this is indeed a another stellar offering. Steve Wilson is pretty consistent, I have to say. I like "the Watchmaker" too, there's really no overall weak tracks to be found on the album.
|
| |
This is so much better than his last two albums. Luminol and The Watchmaker are the two best. Video was great as well
|
| |
Steven Wilson's solo material has been stronger than the last stuff Porcupine Tree put out.
|
| |
The Pin Drop is the best song by far.
|
| |
Really like the video and song. Feels like a true, genuine thing that Wilson would do
|
| |
Apparently the video is based on the story Steven wrote for this album. He lost his older sister who did everything for him when he was young and has never gotten over the loss. The raven is the manifestation of his sister and he gets proof when she sings. But he may be imagining it.

"Steven Wilson's solo material has been stronger than the last stuff Porcupine Tree put out."
Come on man, The Incident is one of their best albums.
