I like this more than the last track they released from "Uno", but I don't think I'm going to be capable of enjoying this album.

More enjoyable than anything on their last two records. Reminds me of the Green Day I grew up on. Rad.

Noticed a few things here:

1. Billy Joe is starting to look like Fat Mike.
2. Song is mediocre at best, but better than the other one.
3. Green Day is no longer capable of recording a song that isn't at least a minute too long.

I thought it was funny when they had three people from the crowd to play a song and Tre was all teaching the guy how to play the part on drums. It was simple, but Tre made it seem like it would be so hard with how he was trying to make sure the guy got it right.

I honestly think this is a fucking good song. Like, where the fuck has this Green Day been? This sounds like Insomniac-era Green Day, and I like that very much. So much better than the first single. Maybe there's hope for this trilogy after all. Seriously though, best new Green Day song I've heard since before American Idiot.

It was good except I hate choruses that only repeat the title. I also liked Oh Love, but it was the wrong choice for a first single. I have hope.

A lot of newer Iron Maiden stuff does this too, which is annoying, especially cuz I actually prefer their more recent stuff (Brave New World and forward)

I will say that the main riff is a complete rip from the three chords that dominate and end 'Jesus' but aside from that it is a much better song than the first single.

It's also kind of funny how some are complaining about how it's not a "step-forward" or how the drumming doesn't change... have any of you ever listened to Green Day? They're just doing what they've always done which is writing catchy three and a half minute pop-punk songs that have been more appealing than appalling to a mainstream audience for almost two decades.

I also don't think there should be a restriction on how old you have to be to stop playing pop-punk if you pioneered the sound. Just saying.

XingKing

Billie Joe was a baby when pop punk was formed, so I don't think he did too much in the pioneering department.

And writing catchy music has nothing to do with maybe adding some interesting fills or changing the beat up. It can be slightly more complex and that's not going to make it any less catchy than hearing the same tic tac drumming for a whole four minutes.

LifeAsAChipmunk

Since most seem to consider that Offspring isn't pop punk until their last few albums (though they say that pop punk's origins steam from the Descendants and the Ramones), I'd say around the mid 90s.

Green Day always talks about how much the Buzzcocks influenced them. This sounds like an early Green Day song. So what makes Green Day pop punk but not this? Besides you talking out of your ass.

The Ramones are pop punk too. Give me 1 reason why they're not.

I don't know about the Ramones, they are very poppy and punk-ish but are rarely considered pop punk. Genre meanings change over time, metalcore 10 years ago is nothing like crappy metalcore we have today.

Also, bands don't have to belong to the same genre as they are influenced by. Anthrax and Metallica were both influenced by Discharge. I don't know anything about the undertones so...

XingKing

I'm agreeing with Yankee 100% here. Those bands are all pop punk and are absolutely no different than the pop punk of today and yet everyone feels like it's sacrilege to call these bands what they truly are.

Pop punk is just punk mixed with pop. Thats it. Punk that leans more towards being extra catchy, fun, with melodic vocals, and is chorus heavy. It doesnt focus on the social/political themes as much as other punk either. By that definition those bands and others in the late 70s/early 80s are 100% pop punk. Most of the Ramones' songs are about girls and havin fun and revolve around catchy choruses. They even called themselves "bubblegum".

YankeeDudel

Who cares if the label didnt exist. Its pop punk now. The "metal" and much more specifically the "doom metal" labels didnt
exist when Black Sabbath started either. It usually takes a while for a subgenre to solidify and get their name.

What you keep forgetting is to actually give me reasons why those bands arent pop punk musically. I gave you clear
examples and I can give you more. Instead of just saying "they're just older and you're stupid and you dont like pop punk
wah wah wah". I expected better out of you.
