Happiness just erupted from my peehole
|
| |
I read that it was just postponed.
|
| |
Yeah, when I read this it seems more like it's on hold than completely squashed. But it's still a huge victory nonetheless.
|
| |
It really is, and it made my day too

http://tech.mn/news/2012/01/19/in-wake-of-sopa-blackouts-franken-and-klobuchar-still-endorsing-pipa/#more-15470
PIPA is still alive and has the ability to inflict a crippling blow to Minnesota’s startup community if passed on January 24th.
Boom.
|
| |
Fuck the sopa!
|
| |
sopa means soup in Portuguese
|

So happy to hear this!

Boom.
A win is a win, and especially since, for once, politicians heeded our protests.
|
| |
SOPA is a singular form for calling someone else "garbage" in Swedish.
|
| |
SOUP IS DEAD
|
| |
A win is a win, and especially since, for once, politicians heeded our protests.
I'm aware, just implying we can't all go back to not caring just yet.
|
| |
I'm aware, just implying we can't all go back to not caring just yet.
I don't think we will ever be able to, sadly. They'll keep fighting it and fighting it. It's what they do.
|
| |
SOPA means shut up in greek. sorta
|
| |
its not dead stop posting this
|
| |
la sopa ha muerto
|
| |
good things, good things. It's funny how active people can get when a few of the biggest sites blackout for a day and provide links to letters you can sign online
|
| |
" Fucking republicans"
It has bipartisan support, dumbass.
|
| |
^^^
|
| |
This isn't over. They'll just roll it into another bill, but no one will care because it's not assaulting them overtly.
|
| |
I thought this bill was called "Save the Music"
|
| |
WIN
|
| |
read it on reddit
|
| |
It's more definitely not dead. These bill WILL be back in another form. The next threat is the "Protecting Children from Internet Pornographers Act of 2011"
|
| |
Great news.
Some politicians are unbelievably retarded.
|
| |
zxlkho has it. Next time it will be a dem submitted bill as opposed to a repub one. Just to keep you on your toes.
|
| |
sopa isn't dead though so fuck you cbs
|
| |
its not dead stop posting this
123 once everyone calms down about it it will just be brought right back and likely passed without much additional fuss
|
| |
do not lose complete faith in our judicial system
|
| |
Tell that to Bradley Manning.
Edit: Because this has nothing to do with the judicial system. The bill isn't on trial. I think you mean legislative branch.
Edit, edit: I took a breath and clarified my thoughts. ADD is not my friend.
|
| |
hm
|
| |
Yeah, the bill seems pretty constitutional to me...
|
| |
Look at 3/4 of the bills that are passed and you'll find they are not constitutional. Patriot Act, NDAA, hell even Rowe v. Wade isn't constitutional. I agree with the sentiment of it but it isn't constitutional.
Edit: sentiment of Rowe v. Wade, not that other shit that infringes on all of our rights as individuals in the US and outside of it.
|
| |
it was only shelved, it can come back at any time
|
| |
the daily show coverage of it was hysterical. half of its supporters had no idea what anything in the bill even meant.
|
| |
SOPA (The Senate's Intellectual Property Act)
where does the 'O' come from in this abbreviation?
|
| |
SOPA ,suck my fucking dick
|
| |
thank god.
|
| |
Stop Online Piracy Act = SOPA
|
| |
whatever happened with ACTA?
|
| |
For all you non-redditor's out there:
http://gcn.com/articles/2011/08/05/protecting-children-bill-could-kill-internet.aspx
I'd take a gander at this.
|
| |
world going to shit lol
|
| |
Perhaps, just a ton of internet stuff it seems, well that and Iran.
|
| |
Yay!
|
| |
I just pee'd a little
|
| |
Ok so wait, what took down megaupload?
|
| |
This is great news by the way
|
| |
Kudos to the peehole comment.
|
| |
Ok so wait, what took down megaupload?
The Feds. Because all they really need to take down foreign copyright infringers is international support and cooperation, which they already have. Just one more reason to show why these laws are redundant in unnecessary.
|
| |
they should be trying to fix the unemployment rate not doing this garbage
|
| |
Hey guys, did you know 'sopa' is pathetic scumfuck in arabic?
|
| |
Oh thank God
|
| |
lets hope it stays dead
|
| |
Reporting that SOPA is dead contributes to an image they'd love you to have.
|
| |
YES!
sad megaupload got shut down tho :/
|
| |
anon is doing a good job about it, at least some people are retaliating
|
| |
The rest of the world doesn't give a shit!
|
| |
^ Moron.
|
| |
Why doesn't our generation do something useful and march on washington?
|
| |
Because we have the false impression that we can do it behind the screen.
|
| |
Keep the pressure on cos this isn't over yet - we need to mantain an open iternet, mannnnnn!
"Fuck you i wont do what you tell me"
|
| |
SOPA means shut up in greek
Yeah, that's true (=Σώπα), it's the imperative in Greek of the phrase "shut up".
On another note, since the Republicans are so despised in the US, how come they get voted on every election process???
|
| |
Republicans aren't all despised, just people who use the internet and go on forums are generally younger and better educated, And both of these groups have a strong tendency to lean towards being Liberal. However, because they are so young they are less like to exercise their right to vote. On the other hand, Republicans appeal much more to older people who aren't necessarily as outspoken on the internet, but can still vote and are much more likely to do so.
Also lol at people who think that Anon DDOSing government sites again will get anything accomplished other than making more 60-year-old politicians who can't understand the internet even more infuriated and likely to try to pass even harsher laws.
But yeah, this is far from dead. Just put off enough so that it can fade out of the public eye before being passed.
|
| |
Isn't it like, most people in the US don't vote, because they know nothing will change
|
| |
They'll be back.
|
| |
SOPA is dead? Well, bury it sixty feet under before it rises again.
|
| |
"They'll be back"
...and in greater numbers?
|
| |
Mediafire is alive to see another day!
|
| |
People are goin "yea m/, our freedom 'n shit" but, well, this doesn't mean too much sadly. The truth is they have just learned that they can't expose us to their bills, because we'll rub it in their faces and make them out to be cheats. This only means they'll have to pass things in a much more veiled manner, and bypass that process of, you know, informing us about it
|
| |
no one really was exposed to this bill omaha, that's why it even got so far in the first place, public ignorance. mainstream media definitely didn't expose the public to it, and the only reason people really knew was because the sites normal people use every day ie. google, wiki, craigslist, told them to protest it. tbh, i can see more people that were especially pissed off about SOPA takin a more active interest in what goes on in government
|
| |
on the other hand, i find it hilarious that people fighting for our supposed freedoms didn't give a shit about NDAA passing, even with the signing statement obama put on it. shows that in america internet and free shit > personal freedoms and privacy
|
| |
INTERNET is dead
|
| |
fuck yeah.
|
| |
it's not dead at all, and even if it was another bill would eventually be passed that was some form of it.
"fucking republicans"
fucking dumbasses
|
| |
(dumbasses being people that blame the republicans for this bill. I hate republicans as much as the next guy but people like you are just the worst)
|
| |
"Reporting that SOPA is dead contributes to an image they'd love you to have."
This. So hard.
|
| |
Meanwhile filesherve, filesonic and upload.to have recently bitten the dust
|
| |
so did megaupload, anywho as long as they dont touch our torrents. be like having retards play in our pants! smells like....bullshit!
|
| |
Worst week ever. Megaupload, fileserve and filesonic. The best three all gone. Unbelievable.
And please stop mentioning mediafire. Music is the least of the problems. No one wants to download stuff like 1080p rips split into 50+ 200mb parts. And no one is going to be uploading them either. There'll probably be less music too or it will at least take longer to be shared. 99% of what's on mediafire originates somewhere else. Just awful.
|
| |
they sayd mediafire is deleting files to avoid being blocked
|
| |
yeah its not dead
|
| |
hey guys, ACTA
|
| |
ACTAFOOL
|
| |
Much more than just the freedom of the internet is at stake with the SOPA bill. If it is passed, people will be quick to retaliate, and the effectiveness and fairness of our judicial system will be put to the test right under the focused and attentive watch of the people.
I'm very interested to hear the outcome of this..
