Rock Star: Van Halen?

2006-02-12 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 6 Comments
When reports surfaced last year that heavy metal legends Van Halen would use the 'Rock Star' TV talent search franchise to find their new singer, the band's management dismissed the reports out of hand.

Well now, it seems, management have changed their tune. Talking to AOL's TMZ.com, Van Halen publicist refused to rule out any possibilities, saying: "I'm not denying it. I'm not going to answer any questions about it."

Fellow 80s rockers utilised the show last year to recruit singer J.D. Fortune, and the show's success has led to a hit new album sold-out tour across America.

Should this come to pass, the new recruit will become Van Halen's fourth lead singer in their 28-year recording history: the charismatic David Lee Roth led the band from 1978-1985; Sammy Hagar took vocals for a further ten years; while ex-Extreme vocalist Gary Cherone lasted only a year in 1998.

The new season of 'Rock Star,' regardless of the band in question, is scheduled to air this summer.

It's not really a big deal, obviously they need to have try outs. Why not make money out of it.

Eh. Hopefully this new guy wont ruin Van Halen's reputaion. If so, they need to just quit now while the quitin' is still good.
