nice

| |
ew no please no no no NO NO DO NOT WANT
|
| |
its way better than i was expecting
|
| |
labrie sucks hard
|
| |
i have to admit though, the drums are pretty boring in comparison to what portnoy could have done to this song.
|
| |
an entirely new level of suck
|
| |
The song is better than anything they've put out in recent years, however the drumming is not. I'm sure the Youtube mix doesn't help, but all in all even with the drums being less than mind-blowing I'm pleased with this.
|
| |
I'm SO glad the bass is mixed well into this song. It sounds a lot better than all of their recent albums.
|
| |
Decent track. They really could've cut down on the repetition of the chorus, especially since it isn't all that memorable in the first place. But besides that it sounds solid, really liking the part at 5:52.
and no wank
|
| |
The album cover looks a lot like the one for A Change of Seasons.
Song is good.
|
| |
Yeah, I think cutting out the wank will really be beneficial to them. I hope the entire album is like this.
|
| |
The song is better than anything they've put out in recent years, however the drumming is not.
this pretty much sums up my feelings.
|
| |
The keyboards are amazing.
|
| |
Very average. Nothing spectacular. Portnoy's absence can be noted.
|
| |
song was all right
|
| |
I didn't care for this. However, i'm not really into this sort of metal anymore, so i guess my opinion isn't exactly valid here.
|
| |
"The keyboards are amazing."
if by amazing you mean cheesy as fuck and don't add ANYTHING to the song and actually make the song worse
then yeah
they're fantastic
|
| |
Basically this is their best single in over a decade.
I couldn't care less, though.
|
| |
Album title is typical Dream Theater
Album art is typical Dream Theater
Song is typical Dream Theater
I.e. its ok but nothing amazing.
|
| |
"if by amazing you mean cheesy as fuck and don't add ANYTHING to the song and actually make the song worse
then yeah
they're fantastic"
We are talking about Dream Theater here, aren't we?
Dream Theater has always fed on quirky keyboard parts if I am not mistaken.
They are pretty damn awesome to me. I am sorry you don't find them as awesome as I do.
|
| |
I liked the song.
|
| |
It's ok.
|
| |
for those too lazy to actually listen to it:
-soft guitar build-up
-twinkly circusy keyboards
-sikk drumminz from mangina
-labrie goes "LAMB 2 DA SLAUGHTERRRRRR" and uses the same vocal melody that he's used in that one other song. you know the one.
-long guitar solo
and that's about it
|
| |
A tad too long. could do with less choruses. I couldn't give a damn about the members, the music is what interests me.
|
| |
So, it was G3N3R1C?
|
| |
decent song, not really as good as anything on bc&sl tho
a little worried if this what they're using to get ppl excited about the album
|
| |
also the top rated comment on that video is pretty lol
"Finally a true Dream Theater song. Not a Portnoy ADHD trip of "I wanna be Metallica...no, I wanna be Opeth.....no, wait....the Beatles." Good riddance to the past. My faith in Dream Theater's music is renewed."
kid has no idea what he's talking about
|
| |
To be completely honest, I'd have to agree with that post on youtube. I've felt that Portnoy was taking the band in a terrible direction with the past few albums. Ever since he started growling in songs, it all went downhill for me.
|
| |
i agree the "growling" was stupid but i still think bc&sl is one of the best albums they've put out to date (count of tuscany easily being a top five dt song)
|
| |
Song is decent. Too repetitive for my tastes.
|
| |
I deleted all their music off of my ipod last night. I have no regrets.
|
| |
Awesome song. Can't wait for the album.
|
| |
This is not better than ANY of the songs on their last album, so I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. It's about on par with A Rite of Passage at the best.
It just sounds really uninspired to me. There were some neat keyboard moments and I liked that two-second bass fill but it was pretty boring overall.
|
| |
liked the whole instrumental side of the song...even the drumming. labrie however can go fuck himself
|
| |
3/5. Nothing special.
|
| |
haters, this is golden
|
| |
Agree with Yazz Flute on this one
|
| |
Labrie is underrated. i think he's a good vocalist, just listen to images and words. song sounds pretty good.
|
| |
I'm a fanboy...and this song is meh. Wonder what else to expect for the rest of the album.
|
| |
Why does everything this band writes sound like it belongs in a Final Fantasy VI promo? Goddamn.
|
| |
Yeah the vocals leave a lot to be desired. It's almost like LaBrie is holding back for fear that people will call him an annoying turd for singing too high. He would be sort of correct in that assumption, but this wouldn't be the right way to go about it.
Also, the vocal melodies here are the same shits from other DT songs, which is super lame and ruins any potential for the song.
|
| |
Am I the only one that gets a strong Images and Words vibe from this song? That can only be a good thing in my books. Vocals are mehhhh though.
|
| |
"I'm SO glad the bass is mixed well into this song. It sounds a lot better than all of their recent albums."
This x1000. You can actually hear Myung and the drums aren't the major sound with just doublekicking through the entire song... LaBrie needs more variation in his melodies, as pointed out above. Pretty nice stuff, not mind-blowing but much, much better than most of what they've put out since ToT. It gives certainly gives hope for the album.
|
| |
if by amazing you mean cheesy as fuck and don't add ANYTHING to the song and actually make the song worse
123
|
| |
that VERY first acoustic part sounds just like Axiom from Akercocke
|
| |
Audible bass
|
| |

It's the first song off the album, calm down.
|
| |
It wasn't that bad, I really like the chorus.
The song is a bit boring though.
|
| |
twas alright. I'm a pretty big Petrucci fan, but his technical ability always hurts his songwriting..
|
| |
They might actually be getting their shit back together. It's still not that good, but it's an improvement.
|
| |
Too keyboard-heavy and it was pretty boring for me. I guess I'm in the minority that thought their last album was the best since Train of Thought and this puts them right back in the Octavarium/Systematic Chaos era of lameness.
|
| |
Well that sure was a Dream Theater song.
|
| |
Except for the blandness of Labrie's vocals, I actually liked quite a bit of the music going on in this song...the only album i've bothered with getting from these guys is Images and Words, and it's a gem. Glad Petrucci put out one album really worthwhile before he realized how proficient of a wanker he was...ha
|
| |
Song was okay, nothing too special. Given their recent situation you''d think they would have gone with something a little more gutsy. Song sounded really 80's to me for some reason
|
| |
definitely sounded 80's
|
| |
sounds like FII album.
|
| |
Not bad, not good.
|
| |
sounds like FII album.
Yeah I agree
|
| |
Uhhkris thank you. Your comments had me laughing my ass off haha.
|
| |
This song sounds more like an uninspired, modern-day "Pull Me Under", but it's actually pretty good in DT single standards, because DT has always made cheesy singles (Forsaken, Whither, Constant Motion, etc.)
|
| |
typical dream theater, nothing great
|
| |
For those not in the know, Petrucci wrote all the drum parts for this album and told Mangini to play them, so hopefully next album when Mangini actually writes it'll be better. that being said, it's time to listen to this
|
| |
Sounds like old school Dream Theater. enjoyed it a lot
|
| |
Petrucci plays drums?
|
| |
Rudess' Keyboard parts really didn't do much to add to the song as a whole, song is alright.
|
| |
Had to stream this through my iphone and into computer speakers, but my first impression is that losing Portnoy didn't make their music any better and may have actually made it worse. They've lost a little bit of their edge and the drums definitely lack power and that unique edge Portnoy brought.
If they were trying to prove that they could do it without Portnoy, they may have failed...
|
| |
HATERS GONNA HATE
FANBOYS GONNA FAP
I'm somewhere in between. And by that I mean I came in skeptical and left impressed.
|
| |
I came in hopeful and left skeptical.
|
| |
I came
I saw
left her in a restroom stall
|
| |
You came early huh? You should get that checked out
|
| |
Well, luckily, its not horrible. Honestly, it kind of reminds me of their style on Images and Words. I personally like their new approach. They have abused the wank style for so long now....it just can't be done anymore. Everyone but the most retarded of fanboys still likes that approach. I commend them for changing things up a bit.....even if not that much. Mangini is okay.....pretty much just plays the role of a drummer, but I am glad he won't poison the songwriting like Portnoy was beginning to do. We'll see how this album goes....not expecting much, but it can't be horrible judging from this.
|
| |
Nothing new here, LaBrie's vocals have always been (slightly) annoying, depending on the song, here he doesn't sound like himself at all.
my first impression is that losing Portnoy didn't make their music any better and may have actually made it worse. They've lost a little bit of their edge and the drums definitely lack power and that unique edge Portnoy brought.
My thoughts exactly.
|
| |
A Dramatic Turn of Events
lolgay
|
| |
You guys are never gonna be impressed with what they put out, you should just enjoy it for what it is. First people said they hated the wank, now that this song has little to none unnessesary wank, people say it's "boring".
Personally, I think the song is brilliant and should please fans of the band with fresher ideas, more audible bass and less wank. Also, it's straying away from the "metahl!!" direction of the last few albums and is more traditional Dream Theater.
Bear in mind aswell that is is the single and the singles are generally the weaker songs off their albums.
And before anyone says it, I'm not a raving fanboy and don't like everything they've ever put out. Solid song for me though
/rant :D
|
| |
Everyone says labrie is the worst part about this band.... I think its Jordan Rudess. Hes good at finding the corniest, shittiest keyboard tones.
|
| |
"Petrucci plays drums?"
He wrote the drums in some program then sent it to Mangini to actually play. Here's the interview:
http://ultimateclassicrock.com/john-petrucci-dream-theater-interview-2011/
|
| |
imagine, you do music more than 20 years!!! give them a break, and wait for the album, song is ok.
|
| |
Song is ok.
|
| |
no imagination whatsoever in the drumming. song is ok. nothing more, nothing less
|
| |
I REALLY ENJOYED IT!! :D!
|
| |
At least we still have Images and Words to hold onto..
|
| |
Best thing since Metropolis: SFAM..
|
| |
Its rather boring but im inticed to see what else they can write.
|
| |
Not too bad. Kinda miss Portnoy's drumming but it sounds interesting.
|
| |
For gosh sake, please hold all opinions of Mangina's fit with DT UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE HEARD MORE THAN ONE SONG!!
|
| |
