K.K. Downing Retires

The official Judas Priest website, JudasPriest.com, today announced that K.K. Downing, long-time guitarist for the band and one of metal's most revered musicians, has formally retired from the band, and will not join the band on their upcoming Epitaph World Tour.

Yay for first news post!

Sad, sad news. I wonder if there are any health issues that prompted it. Interested to see the dude who takes over for him play though.

Really bad news but gotta wish him all the best. Perhaps this does herald the end of Priest after all. Definitely a bummer, the band's classic material is nigh on untouchable and KK was instrumental (no pun intended) in such accomplishments.

This is really annoying! My favourite member of the band too. Thank fuck I saw them on their last tour though.

That sucks, metal just lost a hugely influential guitar player.

Judas Priest have been a ghost of themselves for nearly 20 years now.

That sucks even more compared to Downing's retirement.

K.K. ad Glenn Tipton were one of the best Heavy Metal guitar duos ever.

With this happening perhaps they should have quit, without Downing, Tipton or Halford, Priest really isn't quite Priest. No offence to Ian Hill, who has been rocking the bass since the beginning.

I second Nagrarock. Seeing Priest live without Downing (on their Epitaph tour nontheless) just wouldn't feel right. Would've been nice to see him finish the shows with the rest of the band, but at the same time they've given us more than enough to deserve personal time.

I'm going to write him a letter asking if I can have his Engl.

Sucks, but they toured their asses off for years, so I don't blame him for wanting to retire.

Yeah, I was skeptical about going when I heard Anderson wasn't going to be in the lineup, but I've heard pretty good things about the guy they're touring with. And the keyboardist they're using is tops. I like Styx enough to sit through their set.

Their last album came out in 2002, and it was actually pretty good. Better than any classic prog band still releasing albums, really.

I would say A Nod and a Wink is better than any album Rush has released since the '80s.

Don't see why everyon'e all bent out of shape for this, he's such a painfully mediocre guitarist. Everyone knows that Converge has a much better guitarist, I mean KK pales in comparison to Kurt Ballou.

LOL JK
But Kurt's still cool.
