Where do I sign up?
|
| |
this is fucking stupid.
|
| |
sounds stupid at first hear, but in fact not such a weird idea for a sociological study. We need someone to explain us how someone like her got famous, for Gods sake.
|
| |
first you must go dress outlandishly but with finesse, you must do so in a way where people won't call you emo or a retard even though they would call anyone else this for dressing in such attire.
|
| |
As a sociology major this embarrasses me.
|
| |
upset that this school calls themselves USC
|
| |
COCKS TO TEACH GAGA

COCKS TO TEACH GAGA
brilliant.
|
| |
I almost went to this school but decided against it. I think I made the right choice.
Also, waaaaayyy too many college "bros" walking around the campus with hats that just said "cocks" on them. They love that mascot alittle too much.
|
| |
There should be a course about Bjork. [2]
|
| |
I read this yesterday actually.
There should be a course about Bjork. [3]
|
| |
Well, being from South Carolina, i can verify that this pretty much fits the curriculum of that school, seeing how it is my "last resort backup school".
But, so anyone who said "upset that this school calls themselves USC" the University of South Carolina came way before University of So Cal, actually about 80 years. Technically it should be shame on California.
|
| |
as stupid as it first sounds, this is not a bad idea at all
|
| |
bullcrap
|
| |
this is fucking stupid. [2]
|
| |
I can see how it could be a case study or part of a curriculum on a sociology course or something, but a whole course itself is beyond retarded
|
| |
This is not news. /delete
|
| |
go cocks.
|
| |
Zippa is right. Not news. Don't care.
|
| |
lol only because people would pay tens of thousand dollars to go to school and then take this class. thanks dad!
|
| |
Whoever hates that this school still calls themselves USC is retarded, considering it was established over 100 years before that insult of a school out in Southern California.
|
| |
lol sociology
sorry crysis ilu
|
| |
Holy fucking dumb.
|
| |
ps the answer is selling your soul to the Illuminati.
*watches any shred of credibility vanish upon posting this*
|

Nah, Kesha would be teaching Nutrition. She'll teach you many uses for protein.
|
| |
"if you pass this class then you get to take arts and crafts with kesha and make some bad ass home made glitter."
i knew andcas would make a post exactly like that
|
| |
Lol, Why Not Teach a Class On How To Become a Total Wreck w/ Britney Spears. Lol.
|
| |
I could maybe see a sociology class mentioning Gaga as an example, but a whole class... nooo.
|
| |
i can't really mock sociology majors because i was poli-sci + english, but c'mon.
also i would totally take this class
also, i guess nobody clicked the link because im sure this would've been brought up:
This course could also be called “Obsession.” Mr. Deflem said he was instantly entranced with Lady Gaga when he saw her on “The Tonight Show” in January 2009. Then he went to a concert in Atlanta. That led to his traipsing after her around the world to more than 28 shows. He owns more than 300 of her records on vinyl and CD, most of which are international releases. He has started a Web site, gagafrontrow.net, a respectful and adoring fan site with pictures and audio downloads of rare Gaga songs.
|
| |
@zippa in what universe is this not news btw.

Fucking awesome idea, anyone who disagrees needs less Opeth.
|
| |
I was hoping they would teach her how not to suck.
|
| |
Hurr durr. I'm not really sure what I think of this, it could be interesting but seems like focusing on one artist alone would get boring
|
| |
I was hoping they would teach her how not to suck.
FUCK BRO STOP BEING SO EDGY AND COOL

|
| |
I can't.
|

Education in this country has became a frivolous endeavor.
|
| |
As if universities arent having enough trouble being taken seriously
|
| |
it always amazes me to hear about the courses american universities offer. and i felt inane for studying music videos in semiotics class
|
| |
whoops double post
|
| |
shouldn't she be studied in a psychology course instead ?
|
| |
and how would this get you some sort of career? imagine the cash you'll burning and uni parties.
Dude "I'm Medical Biophysics Major for the next 6 years..you?
You "Yeah..i'm studying GaGa. I'm going to change the world!"
Dude ..*walks away*
|
| |
Whole lotta retard in this thread. Bunch of kids who are going to have a stroke when they realize they're not funny.
To be honest, I don't see a problem with this class. We live in a culture where not only is fame valued more than financial security, it's also a time period where Cinderella stories are fetishized horribly and social media combined with reality TV make it possible for people to be famous for nothing. Sociologists should absolutely be looking into this. Lady Gaga is as good a subject for a case study as you're going to get.
|
| |
Giving South Carolina a bad name with such a stupid idea. Who is really going to spend hundreds of dollars to take this course? It better be an elective...
|
| |
This is hardly a stupid class. Lady Gaga is possibly the fastest business growth phenomenon in the world. I remember reading an article in the Wall Street Journal detailing how unprecedented and incredible her rise was from a business perspective. It seems like this class is more about modern culture and its effect on various pop icons, using Gaga as a course wide case study.
|
| |
if thats the case then it could be a useful course. but in the article the professor is just a huge lady gaga fanboy and probably just wants to talk about her and his collection of over 300 gaga albums
|
| |

this made me lol very nice
|
| |
As a sociology major I'm intrigued, but I can't say I'd choose this as an upper level elective.
|
| |
you wish
|
| |
andcas dated the chick from bones?
|
| |
Really? really?
|
| |
Wut.[2]
|
| |
i actually find this to be a really good idea. the whole Gaga thing is probably just an exempliary person to use for the course name, I seriously doubt that it focuses solely on her, she is an avenue into exploring the ideas and formulas of popular culture. Great idea for a course.
|
| |
shut the fuck up andcas
|
| |
Are the ideas and formulas of popular culture relevant to anything but popular culture?
|
| |
definitely not dude i mean it doesnt stretch to sociology or even business or anything like that man its just ppl talkin about ridin disco sticks and stuff like that lol 8)
|
| |
Fucking awesome idea, anyone who disagrees needs less Opeth.(2)
and hahaha at that...
|
| |
Well there was that one college that gave a class on how to be good at Starcraft, so...at least this has some educational value?
|
| |
This would be like studying Boy Bands 101 in 1997. I wonder how many people that attended that course have a steady income these days...
|
| |
How the hell is this course deemed academic? The states seem to have a very odd sense of academia,
while im not positive if Canadian Post-Secondary institutes allow such stupidities, i have not come
across any course selection even remotely similar.
|
| |
academy did you just call south carolina a notable school
|
| |
lol i mean, it's been around a while, and thus has a big alumni-base
not really known for academics outside of the South, but it's a pretty well-known school
i think a good indicator is i've met undergrads, faculty, former faculty, and graduate students from that USC in the course of my own academic/professional career.
as for the 'standards of academia,' i don't really see a problem with these types of electives. i've seen/heard of way more frivolous shit offered at way better schools.
|
| |
Well there was that one college that gave a class on how to be good at Starcraft, so...at least this has some educational value?
That has waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more educational value if you're Korean.
The worst part about the whole thing is that it is nothing more than frivolous. Sure, if you don't want to take it then you don't have to, but how much of the school's budget is going into it? I mean, I'm losing out on classes actually relevant to my major, while these retards are discussing the finer points of Gaga?
|
| |
"but how much of the school's budget is going into it?"
big schools like USC can absorb this, fairly easily in fact. For one thing, these sorts of classes attract applicants. For another, allowing professors to write their own classes can lead to unexpected publication of course materials, to which the school may have some administrative right.
|
| |
I'm just imagining how embarassing it would be to fail this class.
|
| |
Sorry guys, I can't party tonight I have a huge exam tomorrow about Lady Gaga. I can't afford to fail it, man!
|
| |
They should teach a class about Kesha next.
|
| |
sowing they finally tagged you contrib?!
congrats bro, well deserved
|
| |
