The new Matisyahu album “Spark Seeker” was released yesterday to seemingly little fanfare. With a new clean shaven look Matisyahu releases his Fifth LP. It was produced by Kool Kojak and is said to feature “reggae, hip-hop and electronica layered over Middle Eastern instruments and rhythms”. It is available for purchase at Amazon or on iTunes or you can hit up the link below for the stream.

English reggae singer Smiley Culture has died after reportedly stabbing himself in the heart following his arrest at his home in Surrey. He was 48.
Police delivered an arrest warrant to the singer - real name David Emmanuel - on Wednesday morning.
The arresting officers accepted his offer of a cup of tea before being taken into custody, during which time Emmanual is said to have stabbed himself in the heart with a carving knife. He had been due to sit trial next week on charges of conspiracy to supply cocaine.
Emmanuel's biggest hit was 1984's cult classic 'Police Officer,' which reached number 12 in the UK charts.

Reggae musician Gregory Isaacs has died at the age of 59.
The Jamaican singer passed away in London on Monday morning (October 25) following a year-long battle with lung cancer.
The prolific artist released over 500 albums in his lifetime, the most notable of which was the 1982 release Night Nurse.
"Gregory was well-loved by everyone, his fans and his family," said his wife Linda. "He worked really hard to make sure he delivered the music they loved and enjoyed."

Bedouin Soundclash drummer Pat Pengelly leaves to presumably work on other projects. The band released a statement on the departure http://www.punknews.org/article/31856 stating the members were still on good terms and thankful for each others friendship, etc, etc. This is the second precussionist to exit Bedouin since their debut in 2001.

25th January 2008 will forever go down as a glorious day in musical history, as a day that saw the end of one of the most tragic, saddening cases of mass idiocy in human endeavor.
UB40, for those of you who don't know, are a glorified covers band who have been terrorizing pub jukeboxes, VH1 specials, and any locale where pointless and harmless 'ambient' pop music is deemed acceptable for the best part of 30 years. In that period, their one good original song - "One in Ten" - has become a distant memory as their lazy, exploitative versions of Neil Diamond's "Red Red Wine", Elvis Presley's "(I Can't Help) Falling in Love With You", Eric Donaldson's "Cherry Oh Baby", "Homely Girl" by The Chi-Lites, and Lord Creator's "Kingston Town" have made them - terrifyingly - the second most successful reggae act in history in terms of record sales. Saturday, October 20th
South African reggae singer Lucky Dube has been shot dead in Johannesburg.
Authorities say he was killed in an apparent car-jacking which happened in front of his son and daughter.
The well known 43-year-old was the biggest-selling reggae singer in South Africa and won local and international awards for his songs about oppression under apartheid.
Dube's first album "Rasta Never Die" was banned from radio airplay by the then all-white government.

Matisyahu is currently writing new material for his third album. It will be his follow-up to last year's highly acclaimed Youth and is expected to surface sometime in early 2008. No further more details regarding his new album have been made.
Matisyahu has been touring non-stop since the release of Youth and is currently playing shows all across the country with 311 on their Summer Unity Tour 2007. The tour began last month and ends late August.
