On the 17th of April, Yuck returned with a surprise EP, entitled Southern Skies. The
shoegaze influenced EP moves the band further afield from their superfuzz grunge influenced
self-titled debut album and continues the lilting, more hazy atmosphere of their sophomore
offering, Glow And Behold.
You can stream the EP in its entirety, via Soundcloud, and check out the video for the EP's
title track below:
It's been just about twenty years since Sunny Day Real Estate released Diary. It's been fourteen years since the band released their final album, The Rising Tide. It's been five years since they announced their reformation, and one year since bassist Nate Mendel confirmed their third breakup by stating that the recording sessions for their hotly anticipated new album "just fell apart".
I think, all things considered, it's safe to say that the Seattle emo second-wavers are just about done. Three breakups, a fourteen year gap between now and their last album, and the inability to finish recording a new album is just about enough. Having said that, I find myself actually wishing that the band would have released that proposed new album because their Record Store Day split offering 'Lipton Witch'--backed by Circa Survive's 'Bad Heart'--plays as a solid, establishing lead single for an album that will likely never ever come.
Legendary guitarist Ace Frehley, who has been recently inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame as a member of KISS, will release his new solo album, entitled Space Invader, June 24. Ace claims that he is now happier and more creative than ever, and that he's really satisfied with his new compositions.

Germany's very own sleazy/heavy metal/hard-rock/power metal entourage famously known as Edguy, have made their new album (which is available today

In addition, the album stream also includes the two bonus tracks that are associated with
Head on over to spin the new album:
Several weeks after lead singer Tim Lambesis' conviction for solicitation of murder, members
of the metalcore outfit As I Lay Dying have finally broken the silence and revealed their
plans to continue making music under a new name: Wovenwar.
The band features members Jordan Macino on drums, Nick Hipa on lead guitar, Phil Sgrosso on rhythm guitar, Josh Gilbert on bass and Shane Blay on vocals (previously of Oh, Sleeper).
Wovenwar is signed to Metal Blade Records.
You can check out a teaser for Wovenwar right here:
At the beginning of April Dean Blunt and a group of musicians - including three saxophonists (Bradley Miller, Asger Hartvig, Shabaka Hutchins), two guitarists (Blunt, Joanna Robertson), a bass player (Emil Elg), a vocalist (Liquid Thompson), and three pianists (Blunt, Robertson, Elg) - came together in London's Cafe Oto for a show they called "Free Jazz". At just under an hour the octet trespassed through a simultaneously elusive and ghastly set of unhinged improvised Jazz. The performance has since been uploaded to Blunt's soundcloud page and can be heard below.

Swedish metal band Katatonia have lost their drummer Daniel Liljekvist, who has chosen to
leave the band due to personal reasons concerning the commitment required to be a member of the band.
Dear friends and fans,
I’ve been thinking about this for the last couple of months and I’ve come to the sad
conclusion that i have to leave the band. It’s got nothing to do with ’difference in views
´ or any other bullshit. I just cannot combine job, family and commit 100% to Katatonia.
Times for musicians are rough and i’ve decided to concentrate on my family and get a
normal job that gets the bills payed.
I’ve had some of the best moments in my life the past 14 odd years together with my
favorite people in the world. I’ve been all over the planet with this lot…my second
family. Thank you!
