Major Influences of The Dismemberment Plan
Bands that the Plan owes a great debt to (yes, they cited these bands themselves). |
1 | | Brainiac Bonsai Superstar
Obviously was a huge influence on their first two albums (! and The Dismemberment Plan is Terrified...). This album was a major catalyst on the first album, while Hissing Prigs in Static Couture probably had a measurable impact on the second album. |
2 | | XTC Black Sea
Not always incredibly obvious, but the angular guitar and bass on this album and White Music probably had a measurable effect on pretty much all their albums up to Change. |
3 | | Soul Coughing Ruby Vroom
Considering the Plan's second album is so hip-hop influenced, I'd wager this album was one of its biggest influences that it's indebted to. |
4 | | Talking Heads Remain in Light
Cited as a major influence on the album Change. Also, elements of their earlier albums are recognizable on any of their first four albums as well. For example, "This Big Country" from "More Songs about Buildings and Food" strangely somewhat resembles "Ellen and Ben" (also from Change) at times in rhythmical structure. |
5 | | Jawbox For Your Own Special Sweetheart
Pretty much a huge influence on any of their first four albums. I'd also wager their second album "Novelty" might have a bit of influence as well. |
6 | | Fugazi Fugazi
Even from just their first EP, its evident Fugazi had a big impact on The Dismemberment Plan, particularly the drummer Joe Easley and bassist Eric Axelson. |
