This Year Stoned As Hell

Refer to Title
1Animals As Leaders
On Impulse

The first time I heard this band, I was hooked instantly. AAL has a solid mix of melody, great riffage and more and more melody. Amazing band.
2Gojira
Embrace the World

Oh my god, is this band ever amazing or what? Who new that the freshest sound in metal today (IMO) would come from Bayonne, France?? I didn't. I do now.
3Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here

I love this band so fucking much. The weird thing is I never listen before this year and as soon as I did (ripped out of my head), I learned to appreciate Floyd pretty quickly as they were all I listened to for a straight month.
4The Mars Volta
L'Via L'Viaquez

Never has a transition been so easier from one band to the next as I went from Floyd to one of the greatest progressive acts of the 2000's if not the best, Mars Volta. This album definitely hit me the hardest as the core masterpiece of the band's tenure.
5Beyond Creation
The Aura

This band makes me feel so good to be Canadian. Probably my favorite tech-detal album to date if not one of few. Beyond Creation has everything that you'd ever want in a death metal band. Ever. Low growls, high growls, melody, technicality beyond imagination and great, great riffs that stay in your head for days and weeks.
6High on Fire
Frost Hammer

The best equalivalent of the 90's and 2000's to Black Sabbath I can think of, Matt Pike's stoner thrash metal trio had exactly what I was looking for next in my delve into metal. Riff-o-mania.
7Gorod
Chronicle From The Stone Age

Gorod is without a doubt not only one of my favorite metal bands, they are definitely on of my favorite bands ever. I love everything that they put out and I hope to one day see them tour in Canada for once. Leading Vision is a modern masterpiece F.Y.I.I.M.R.O.
8Red Hot Chili Peppers
Funky Monks

On the other side of the spectrum, Red Hot Chili Peppers definitely satisfies my funky cravings. Blood Sugar Sex Magik is so fucking good. SOFUCKINGGOOD. Fuck all the haters that hate on this album just because it got so popular. There's a good reason why it did.
9Aesop Rock
Saturn Missiles

Aesop has a flow that no other rapper has. That's obvious. He's amazing. Especially on this track and on the rest of this album. A true masterpiece by the unofficial king of the underground rap world.
10Beastie Boys
Root Down

These guys get me really pumped for some reason. REALLY pumped. :/ Maybe it's because I'm so white. Regardless, these white boys can funk, man. So much so that I shed more than a few tears for the death of MCA this year. RIP Adam Yauch.
11Deftones
Rosemary

Deftones are my favorite band today, no bullshit. I love 99% of what they have done ( minus Pink Cellphone and Lucky You) and what they do. They just keep releasing classic after classic IMO. This new album has not disappointed me in the least. Beautiful stuff.
12Dying Fetus
Devout Atrocity

Without a doubt the greatest death metal band on the planet right now and the best album they've released to date. Reign Supreme made me appreciate older Dying Fetus albums WAY more. I'm so glad they released this record this year. Great timing. Fucking love Dying Fetus.
