Music and high school

It's the first week of my senior year of high-school, and I'm not very excited. It truly rseems like just another year with people I don't particularly care for (get used to it, reh?) Over the past three years I've changed quite a bit. I've come quite a long way rmusically and as a person, so here's a list to accompany my journey
1Billy Talent
Billy Talent

Looking back, freshman year was pretty pitiful. I never felt like an underclassmen, I was in a bunch of junior-level classes and aside from my friend group, I didn't give a shit about anyone my age. I liked some pretty horrible music, and seeing it now, it really was because I never had any influence from anyone who was musically knowledgable. I was pretty pissed at the world at that point, typical shit from a person that age. But I did end up meeting a teacher who I would later connect with on a musical level
2Avenged Sevenfold
Waking the Fallen
3Cult of Luna
Somewhere Along the Highway

At this point in time, sophomore year was rolling around, and I had been playing the drums for 10- ish years. It's quite the douchey thing to say, but for the music I listened to, I personally had reaches a pinnacle as far as musicianship goes. My drumming abilities were moving faster than my musical interests, so due to that, music was getting boring to play, so I started listening to some different types of music. I ventured into the spheres of progressive and post-rock/metal and have yet to come back. It was just so intriguing, and I found myself truly entranced by the music I was listening to. I met back up with the teacher I had the previous year, and we would just sample different pieces of music, helping broaden our tastes. I had way too much time for to listen and play due to the fact that I basically slipped through the cracks with just about everything, I wasn't really involved with much, and I never saw eye-to-eye with anyone aside from my core group of guys.
4Between the Buried and Me
Colors
5The Ocean
Precambrian

Junior year, (well actually sophomore year and the summer before junior year) I met Lilly, who is just absolutely magnificent. Being around her allowed me to learn how to truly appreciate something very fondly, and I used that with music. I can't believe the amount of stuff I listened to that year. I love(d) a lot of modern progressive metal and rock, along with some great post metal/rock, alternative, indie, and post-hardcore. I met some of the I.T. guys my dad worked with, and we started an instrumental post-rock group with some progressive leanings called Roots and Ruins. We are actually recording our record in the present time and it's one of the most excited experiences of my hound life. I did manage to keep my grades up decently amongst all of the music and work (fuck subway), so I was generally pleased with that.
6The Mars Volta
De-Loused in the Comatorium
7Opeth
My Arms, Your Hearse

Senior year is revving it's engine, and while everyone tells me to sit back and enjoy it, there's way too much going. On top of the band and work, paired with school is an internship I've been given by my school at a recording studio. So, I leave school and go work there a few hours every day. On top of that, next semester I am going to be dual-enrolled at my local community college to get some liberal arts credits out of the way. Amongst all of that, I'm still managing to enjoy as much music as ever, and I'm trying to soak in as much as I can. I'm trying to listen to all of the groups that have played a huge roll on the modern music I love, and I'm loving nearly every album I'm listening to. Still with my girlfriend, and all is well there. So life is hectic but enjoyable at this point in time. My band is recording and I'm looking forward to playing shows (locktender tour..?) and promoting!
