Images and Words

I really hate this band, but I can't deny how good this album is back when they were actually writing music, and not a bunch of shitty wank.
9Blind Guardian
Somewhere Far Beyond

Blind Guardian is probably about the only Power Metal band who's career is worth following all the way through. This is their first really really good album.
8Eric B and Rakim
Don't Sweat the Technique

The last album by this highly influential duo ranks high. Fantastic way to end.
7Medeski Martin and Wood
Notes From the Underground

Awesome debut from a great fusion group. These virtuoso's are fantastic.
6Kyuss
Blues For the Red Sun

Lots consider this to be Kyuss' best album, but I find it really trails off after Thong Song. A couple good songs after that (Allen's Wrench), but it ends pretty weak. The first run of 5 songs is what makes this album so highly rated.
5Thomas Chapin Trio
Insomnia

This album moves. Great work of avant-garde jazz.
4Screaming Trees
Sweet Oblivion

The most underrated band to come out of the grunge scene, Mark Lanegan is awesome, and this album is very good.
3Iron Maiden
Fear of the Dark

Maybe the most underrated Iron Maiden album, this has a ton of great songs. A couple bad ones, but it's mostly awesome. I think it gets a weak rep because it followed Maiden's worst.
2 Miles Davis
Doo-Bop

This album is so cool. I'd honestly say this is more of a Hip-Hop album than a jazz album, but still, it's so good. It's too bad he died the year prior to this release, it would have been so cool to see what he could have done.
1Alice in Chains
Dirt

Such a good album, so many great songs. Can't think of any that couldn't be considering classic AiC hits.
