A Man & The Blues

ROUND 3

BLUES or FOLK ROCK

From this point on there will be prizes for round winners, i'll elaborate in round 4

Keep jams under 8 minutes please
2Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds
The Firstborn Is Dead

bgillesp

"Tupelo"

Great way to start things off. I’ve been slacking on checking Nick Cave’s work and feel this was a great place to start. Cave gives a killer vocal performance and the tribal-esque drums hit you hard and relentlessly for the full 7 minute duration.

4.2/5
3Tom Waits
Mule Variations

ArsMoriendi

"Big in Japan"

I will say, Tom’s voice was jarring at first but I really got into it by the end of the song and re-listens. The whole vibe of this thing is great and it has a crazy amount of swagger to it.

Viva Last Blues

hal1ax

"Viva Ultra"

Very warm and lovely track. Liked it more on re listens and came to appreciate the small intricacies. I haven't jammed anything other than Epic Jammers but this generally what i was expecting from his solo work.

5Laura Stevenson
Sit Resist

ianblxdsoe

"Master of Art"

Cute, sweet, and happy. Voice is wonderful. Nothing too crazy instrumentally but I think it works as a nice background for Laura’s vocal performance. Has a summer, bike riding feel to it.

3.7/5
6Fairport Convention
Unhalfbricking

Avagantamos

"Who Knows Where the Time Goes"

Beautiful yet melancholic song with a slight country vibe. It felt quite emotional and personal and that’s a big plus in this genre. Vocalist died at only 31, fucked up.

3.8/5
7Bobby Bland
Two Steps from the Blues

Ovrot

"You've Got Bad Intentions"

The most :fire: diss track of the 50s?

Prob.

3.9/5
8Joana Serrat
Cross The Verge

Dewinged

"Saskatoon (Break of Dawn)"

A short but great slab of folk rock. The ethereal and dreamlike atmosphere help elevate the song to something special. Those guitar twangs at the end had me feelin some kinda way.

3.8/5
9Skip James
Today!

pjorn

"Hard Time Killing Floor Blues"

Skip’s voice is haunting and full of soul. Every strum felt important and the humming actually felt like it was meant to be there rather than just a tacked on device for the sake of catchy-ness. Loved it.

"Sun kanssas mä lähden minne vaan"

Bout time we got some psych vibez up in here. Like any foreign band, I have no idea wtf he’s singing, but the melodies were cool and the song is stylin’. Video was lol.

11Sleep Station
After the War

FullOfSounds

"Caroline, London 1940"

Fun and feel good upbeat track. I dig the vocalist’s hushed but higher pitched voice and that short but sweet lived brass at the end was a nice addition to wrap up the song nicely.

"Understand"

Probably the most rockin’ track that was rec’d. It’s got soloing, energy, and attitude. Despite hitting nearly 50 years old, the song still sounds fresh. Recommended for those who like faster, more jammin’ blues rock.

3.9/5
13Moddi
Floriography

VaxXi

"Smoke"

Starting somber and kicking it into high gear towards the end, “Smoke” was a great ride. The acoustic strumming and picking worked well with the violin and made the song feel intense. Great voice to boot.

14Neil Young
On the Beach

L4titudes

"Walk On"

What's that? Another big artist tacos has been slacking on in favor of shitty name your price post rock bands? Didn't love it as much as expected but it has a good feel. Song felt honest and true. “Some get stoned, some get strange, Sooner or later, it all gets real.”

3.7/5

Drifter

"Something In The Way She Moves"
A simple and passionate little folk ditty. A good showcase of what a guitar and a good voice can do. You won’t find anything overly complex here, but you will find an earnest love song. but I felt it man, I felt it.

UniqueUniverse

"Our Love Will Carry On"

A super deep and thick voice was a nice change of style compared to the other recs so far. The song felt like a creeping wall of anxiety mixed with regret. Not the jam for those happy days, but one for a quieter, more isolated night.

3.7/5
17Right Away, Great Captain!
The Church of the Good Thief

dbizzles

"Fur Stop Caring"

Yet another short, simple, yet endearing folk rock jam. The way the vocalist delivers the lyrics added some great emotional impact. Especially at the end of the song.

3.7/5
18The Gun Club
Miami

butcherboy

"John Hardy"

Another, more rockin tune. The vocalist is bursting with confidence and enthusiasm and the guitar jam breaks kept you on your toes.

3.6/5
19Dave Bixby
Ode To Quetzalcoatl

Conmaniac

"Drug Song"

Sad song is sad. Don’t do drugs kids. The lyrics alone can tell me the guy is certainly damaged. Dave gives a nice performance and the harder guitar strumming later in the song was subtle but worked.

3.7/5
20The Pogues
Red Roses for Me

Archelirion

"Streams of Whiskey"

Sounds like an anthem to something. I dont know what that something is, but something. The track is a feel good whiskey chuggin’ good time. I’d dance but i already have enough reason for people to never wanna talk to me.
