Back To The Grind
Back to Sputnik after a rather refreshing month off, it'll be nice to catch up
with people again. I plan to start reviewing pretty soon though I may take
the rest of August off from that standpoint (unless I can figure out how to
write up something for the fucking fantastic new-ish Walton album). List is
albums I've picked up yesterday and today |
1 | | Washed Out Paracosm
Took a trip to a sweet local music store (Newbury Comics) and they always have
some pretty good stuff at low prices as well as deep discounts on new releases.
This was one of the things I got there |
2 | | Two Fingers Stunt Rhythms
Also from NC. Got the deluxe edition for $13 which I'm pretty pumped about, plus
the packaging is absolutely sweet. |
3 | | No Age An Object
Never really listened to lo-fi-ish stuff, but the packaging was way too cool to pass
up for $10 and I'd heard good things about the group |
4 | | The Pains of Being Pure At Heart Belong
Also from NC |
5 | | Ellie Goulding Halcyon
Also from NC |
6 | | Actress R.I.P.
Amazon's holding an "EDM sale" for their MP3 department so I figured I'd pop by and
see if I could get any guilty pleasure albums for cheap but it turned out they
actually had some pretty sweet stuff on sale. This was one of them |
7 | | Amon Tobin ISAM
Also from Amazon |
8 | | The Glitch Mob Drink The Sea
Also from Amazon, and before some elitist prick gets pissy about them not being
"tr00 glitch" I find them rather enjoyable and easy to listen to so I figured why not |
9 | | Philip Glass Einstein on the Beach
My mom got this for me for my birthday, and I haven't really had a chance to listen
to it yet (and it's hella dense at 200+ minutes of music, yeesh) but I've heard really
good things about it so why the hell not |
10 | | BT A Song Across Wires
I was super skeptical about this one when I first heard about it and the dubstep
song with Fractal is pretty horrid (which was my first experience with the album)
but the whole thing isn't all that bad. Think These Hopeful Machines without certain
charms in that it's ambitious and overlong as usual but it's all kinda been done
before at this point |
11 | | Auxiliary Phoenix Skribbl
Sweet experimental electronic that's free on Bandcamp, definitely worth a check |
12 | | Danny Brown XXX
Finally goddamn got around to dl'ing this, and it's about as good as expected
(which is to say very) |
13 | | K.Flay What If It Is
Saw her live at a festival on August 10th and was blown away, so I checked out
some of her stuff and she's really really good. Think hyper-intelligent and hyper-
energetic minimalist (?) rap. |
14 | | Mark Pritchard Lock Off
Got an advance dl of this thanks to my other blog but I'm not really sure if I'm
feeling it yet |
15 | | Stealth Scrummage / Nanite
A sweet DnB single which isn't really inventive but is wicked fun nonetheless, worth
a check |
16 | | Gorillaz Demon Days
Had this CD for ages but finally downloaded it today |
17 | | Walton Beyond
Not a new purchase by any means but god damn is it some sweet-ass garage.
Probably the best garage album of the year, screw Disclosure and Phaeleh (though
both of theirs were good too) |
18 | | AlunaGeorge Body Music
Seeing these two Sept. 7, super pumped about that |
