10.01.14 | To anyone seriously pissed because of me ranting about my uni life AGAIN, it's definitely the last time. | Wadlez
10.01.14 | Life gets tougher after school. | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | What kind of maths is it? And are you going into secondary or primary education? | KrazyKris
10.01.14 | @Choccy
Secondary and it's really just what you do to get a maths teatcher. But the gap between the level needed for the final exams and what you get on uni is so damn big. Even the professor tells you, it's pretty much the subject that's furthest from everything you've learned before that.
And I've never been bad in maths (honestly not in anything else either, except for sports maybe), but it was only my choice cause it's the easiest thing for a teacher. So I'm not attached to it at all, I just hate to cancel a decision I've made so quickly. On the other hand: Don't wanna lose any time and if they let me I'm gonna switch to German which is better anyway. | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | There's a serious lack of maths teachers across here if it makes you feel better. I never thought it would be so hard. I mean, I realise you need competent knowledge but too much depth just sounds unnecessary. What maths book did you get? As someone doing further maths, I'm very intrigued!
"except for sports maybe"
:( | KrazyKris
10.01.14 | Yeah, the same here. Nothing easier than getting a job as a maths teacher. German and PP is the exact opposite. But although I'm really planing anything meticulously, thinking of what'll be in 4 or 5 years seems a bit pointless, if I don't think I'm gonna make it through right now. It's not even that I'm sure it's too difficult for me, the last time I got something else than an A in maths was I don't know when, so I'm hopefully not on the crappy side of students. It's just, I always liked maths, but this is to barren and theoretical even for me.
Book is from some Austrian guys, so I guess it doesn't even exist in English. And it isn't that in-depth, damn basic actually (for someone in that field), but I'm only doing the math (bad joke, I know) and that tells me it's gonna get a lot worse.
And you've gotta picture a chubby 14 year old doing a handstand. I mean, I'm skinny as hell now (lost about 12 kilos about 5 years ago), but my stamina and coordination always sucked, even when I was playing football and tennis on a regular basis. | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | Maths has always been my strongest subject, but at the start of my A levels, I started to falter big time. It wasn't impossible or anything, I just wasn't used to working for my maths grades. You seem pretty competent at maths, so maybe you'll be able to do it with sheer effort if you so please.
I was never that good at football, but I loved playing when it wasn't serious. The minute you put me with all the serious, bigger guys, I just did nothing to avoid getting abused. it's all down to finding your sport though and I ended taking up Badminton and Rugby and regretfully doing A Level PE | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | @Decay lol you're kidding right? The burden of being a self sufficient adult is more difficult than anything in school. School life is more or less care free in comparison, because most people only need to really focus on education | KrazyKris
10.01.14 | @Decay
Yeah, cause you really can't if you're 17 and have pretty much no responsibilities.
@Choccy
Yeah, sounds a bit like it's for me too. I think I could pull it off, but again, since I'm not too hooked onto maths anyway, I'm thinking, why put some extra effort in it. I'm a perfectionist and with maths I see my doing nothing but studying to get everything done properly and actually I want to get away from the university as often as possible. And since I always got told I'm more gifted in languages than in science, it seems like I can't do too much wrong, if I really switch.
It's just funny cause everyone's going like "Yay, finally I'm going to uni" and I just really don't want to. There's just not too many alternatives I could realistically live with. | Dunpeal
10.01.14 | you must be european | KrazyKris
10.01.14 | No, sending directly from Pyongyang, Kim is such a great leader.
I'm from Austria. | zakalwe
10.01.14 | lol | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | Considering your competence in english, I wouldn't blame you if you did. All i can say is that maths is a right pain to teach and is also proper frustrating too. Languages is more straight forward.
I'm kind of in the middle there. I want to go to uni, but i'm not so keen on the change that's going to happen when it does. I have to hand in my application form by the 22nd of october or something and i STILL haven't done my personal statement... Howcome you don't want to go to uni? | KrazyKris
10.01.14 | @zak
Always the productive guy (the lol guys are the worst). Actually I'm disappointed, expected one particularline from those songs in the list.
@Choccy
Thanks for that. And yeah, it definitely doesn't appear to be too easy. All I've heard is that German and English teacher have the most work with all the essays and exams. But honestly, if I'm looking at the next 4years, I rather read dozens of books than work endlessly as many math proofs.
Yeah, that isn't too much of a problem here, I'm still living at home, so the big change wasn't really big.
You should definitely do it though. If you give something about your later career, there's hardly any better option.
I'm just not motivated. Don't want big cash, fame or anything and my ambition isn't really aimed at some arbitrary goal, but rather at doing a perfect job, if possible. Was looking for a job for some time anyway, but no one eve interviews you without a degree or experience.
| KrazyKris
10.01.14 | Also I hate to write on my smartphone. | zakalwe
10.01.14 | How about "your hitler hairdo is making me feel ill"
Being from Austria you undoubtedly harbour a secret desire to sport one. | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | Fair enough, I can see how maths would bore anyone.
Oh yeah, I'm definitely going and i know what course i'm applying to but my reluctance for change meant I'm avoiding all the work necessary to apply. Pretty frustrating for me, really but i'm pretty busy/demotivated.
I see what you mean, i'm the same. I pretty much just want a job i don't hate rather than doing something for the monetary value. You might as well reap the benefits of uni whilst you're there. After all, I'm constantly told that they're the best years of your life for a reason | R6Rider
10.01.14 | can you guys please just call it math, and not maths?
But yeah, I always sucked at MATH. | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | Can you guys call it aluminium, rather than aluminum?
American spelling just looks wrong in my mind. I mean, sceptical > skeptical.
| R6Rider
10.01.14 | where you from choccy? | ChoccyPhilly
10.01.14 | UK, mate. | R6Rider
10.01.14 | cool
USA here
obviously lol | KrazyKris
10.01.14 | @zak
Think again, it's fairly obvious. And no, neatly trimmed to 1 cm most of the time and I have no silly mustache either. Btw, how about reading some of my reviews. I mean, not like you have anything better to do.
@Choccy
Yeah, well, people aren't that good at looking at their past objectively. I'm telling you, 15-16 is pretty much the best age, except for the phase when you're maybe getting a kid or something. Anyway, gonna have to do it, gonna do it.
Thanks for the talk.
And I think that's it from me today, need some sleep. | Supercoolguy64
10.01.14 | lol at #8 | Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.01.14 | lol @ fearing 1st year psychology and philosophy courses lol | Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.01.14 | "poor me i have some of the easiest classes available" | KrazyKris
10.02.14 | Never complained about that. p&p is pretty much as
easy as it gets, no problem with that | omnipanzer
10.02.14 | yay 1 | Lord(e)Po)))ts
10.02.14 | good | ScuroFantasma
10.06.14 | Kris where are you from man? | ScuroFantasma
10.06.14 | reason I ask is because I'm also looking at a career as a teacher and I'm interested in philosophy but I'm not sure if they offer the course here alongside teaching (Australia). | KrazyKris
10.06.14 | I'm from Austria, but since the curricula are somewhat linked and coordinated throughout Europe with the whole Bologna Process I guess you could study that everywhere here. Don't know really though. | bach
10.06.14 | why the fuck do yall make thesis statements for descriptions yall know i can't read | Storm In A Teacup
10.06.14 | I'm usually the last to point out differences but trying to read math as maths is weirdly disturbing. It's weird because of how much it bothers me. | KrazyKris
10.06.14 | @bach Well, I'd be the first to write in picture puzzles instead of using those complicated words, it's just not possible here. | ScuroFantasma
10.06.14 | alright, thanks for answering man | KrazyKris
10.06.14 | my pleasure |
