It just seems like no one sticks up for them or at least anymore, I'm fairly new I feel like I missed the "vocal majority that couldnt stop yammering about their greatness".

evilford 09.25.12	I think part of it is that they have always been labelled as death metal, but they're really more than that. But someone going into listening to them expecting them to be as much death metal as they are pegged to be will be like "what the fuck is this". Same thing happens with bands that are pegged as sludge but aren't really and so on. I also think that once a band reaches a certain level of popularity and/or breaks out of obscurity that people have this innate tendency to hate them, think they're gay, etc. And I'm sure that there are people who just don't care for them for legitimate reasons related to the music. Personally I love Opeth and they're one of my favorite bands.
