And yes, the first bands in any genre are always among the most important because they are remembered for, y'know, INVENTING THE GENRE. Re: Pistols, their 'we can't play but fuck it let's make noise' mindset is punk. The fact that they were a put-together band, boyband style, is...absolutely not.

ReturnToRock 04.04.13	To be honest, a more accurate description for punk pop is power-pop, or (for the rockier bands a la old Green Day) just punk rock. I've heard that anything post-original British wave should be called 'punk rock' and not just 'punk', and I agree, they're slightly different genres. Re: knowing how to play, the Ramones followed that philosophy as well and they're not seen as a joke by anyone I know (unlike the Pistols). WAWN-TWO-TH'EE-FAW!
