My Top 15 Albums

Spent a long time pondering this before I finally realized I would never be able to let go of these particular records.
15Manic Street Preachers
The Holy Bible

The thread for this album from last year was probably the most fun I ever had on sputnik. Greatest album of all time lyrically, and the music ain't half bad either (surprisingly enough, there are 3 or 4 RIPPING guitar solos on here). James Dean Bradfield is one of the finest vocalists I've ever come across. Best track: 4st 7lb. 5 YoYo points.
14Unwound
Leaves Turn Inside You

Absolutely massive, showcasing a band reaching their peak and falling down the mountain at the exact same time. Bleakness, bleakness everywhere. Absolutely brilliant guitar and bass work and just overall unbelievably cohesive. Best track: Demons Sing Love Songs. 5/5 YoYo points.
13Rush
Permanent Waves

This was the beginning of my musical revolution, taking me away from '90s alternative radio (which still ruled) to much broader horizons. The technicality on here made my jaw drop upon first listen and it occasionally still does. Best track: Jacob's Ladder. 5/5 YoYo points.
12Black Sabbath
Master Of Reality

My introduction to metal. Still the greatest metal album ever produced, and in a super metal fashion because its heaviness stems from 2 severed fingertips. Best track: Into The Void. 5/5 YoYo points.
11Nick Drake
Pink Moon

The power of these songs is incredibly unexpected to a new listener. Drake's hypnotic baritone and stunning picking techniques, chord structures, and other acoustic wizardry propel this album to a realm where it now exists among the greats. Best track: Place To Be. 5/5 YoYo points.
10Slint
Spiderland

One of those albums that's absolutely impossible to talk about because it literally leaves you speechless. Not of this earth. Best track: Don, Aman. 5/5 YoYo points.
9Boards Of Canada
Geogaddi

Entrancing, captivating, horrifying, Scottish. All words to describe the greatest electronic album known to Scotland. Best track: Corsair. 5/5 YoYo points.
8Pink Floyd
Wish You Were Here

One of the densest and most mesmerizing records ever released. Floyd knew how to get you to shut up and listen, and this can be viewed as the last time the band ever really "worked together" before Waters grabbed the reins so hard the horse died of asphyxiation. Best track: Shine On You Crazy Diamond. 5/5 YoYo points.
7Devin Townsend
Ocean Machine: Biomech

Remember when I said Master Of Reality is the greatest metal album ever? It is. This is something else entirely. Not of this ocean. Best track: Seventh Wave. 6/5 YoYo points.
6Modest Mouse
The Moon & Antarctica

When it comes to lyrics, this is the only record to come close to The Holy Bible. The songs on here range from crazy hillbilly riot soundtracks ("A Different City") to contemplative acoustic laments ("Wild Pack Of Family Dogs") Best Track: Paper Thin Walls. 7/5 YoYo points.
5Soundgarden
Superunknown

The first full-length album I ever listened to. Still holds weight after all these years. Best track: 4th Of July. 1776/5 YoYo points.
4Elliott Smith
Figure 8

Billy Corgan's music may have been therapeutic for me, but Elliott Smith's lyrics have defined a whole new stage in my life. This album is unlike anything else in his discography, with Smith creating the greatest pop music ever as well as churning out several acoustic gems. This album as well as every other record in the top 3 dragged me through the most difficult time in my life to date, and I don't know where I would be without them. Best track: Can't Make A Sound. Figure 8/5 YoYo points.
3Dinosaur Jr.
You're Living All Over Me

"Go to somebody's house. Sit there for a while. Come home. Watch All My Children. Go to sleep."-J Mascis. Best track: The Lung. Murph/5 YoYo points.
2The National
Alligator

Another one of my top 3 lyrical albums of all time. This record has such an incredible voice to it, it's like its own separate entity. I've never heard something with such personality. Best track: The Geese Of Beverly Road. 2 Sets Of Headphones/5 YoYo points.
1Smashing Pumpkins
Siamese Dream

Duh. Best Track: All Of Them. ?/5 YoYo points.
