Decent Rigs

I haven't made a list since 'nam. Here are some albums I have been jamming lately.
1Boards of Canada

This is a really cool listen that I'd really describe more as a journey . It helps to check out the "lyrics". If you've been on this site long enough you should already know all about this. Song that hooked me: 1969
Operation: Mindcrime

This is one album that really lives up to the hype that surrounds it. I've been having a blast singing along to this and reading about the concept which is great. It has everything I could ask for in a metal album. These guys are fucking talented. Song that hooked me: Eyes of a Stranger
3Porcupine Tree

I've been loving this album for some time now. I got some of my close friends into this band so when we get together we like to jam this. I sing and play guitar and my friend plays piano and we do a pretty decent cover of lazarus. New PT >
Endless Fantasy

I'm not gonna lie, the first few times I tried to listen to this I was pretty annoyed. This is super sugary, adrenaline filled fun and if you're being a party pooper this is not going to connect. I'm glad I gave it more time to sink in. The most fun album of 2013 (so far, that i've heard). Song that hooked me: Snow Angels
5The Mars Volta
Frances the Mute

I still prefer De-Loused, but this is growing on me. I love the spanish singing on here. The ambient passages are kind of frustrating but this is still a great listen. These guys and PT are essential "modern" "prog". Song that hooked me: L'Via L'Vasquez
Metroid Prime & Fusion: Original Soundtracks

I only jam the Metroid Prime half of this. I also tend to skip a lot of the boss fight themes but the overworld themes here have a great atmosphere. Plus I used to play this game a shitload so this brings the nostalgia for me. Up there with Final Fantasy 8 among my favorite video game soundtracks. Song that hooked me: Tallon Overworld

I've been putting this on while I'm at work pretty frequently. This is very beautiful music. Some of the most accessible ambient I have heard. Song that hooked me: Radio Ballet
8Elliott Smith
Elliott Smith

I've been delving into the world of Elliott Smith for a short period of time now. This one is the early front runner to be my favorite album of his, but I couldn't really explain why. These songs just speak to me more. Song that hooked me: Needle in the Hay
9Aphex Twin
Selected Ambient Works, Vol. II

I usually only listen to disc 1 from this. This is another one I like to put on while I'm at work. Aphex Twin is a badass. Song that hooked me: Rhubarb
Days Are Gone

I'm surprised this doesn't have a review here. Someone should get on that. I don't think it is deserving of all the hype I've seen across the interwebs but its pretty good. Song that hooked me: If I Could Change Your Mind
11Guthrie Govan
Erotic Cakes

This is some phenomenal instrumental music. Guthrie is insane on the guitar and I really wish he had more material out there. Song that hooked me: Waves
12Danny Brown

This album is very hit or miss for me. I haven't been able to get into it as much as XXX. That being said, there are some great tracks to just go wild to on here. Song that hooked me: 25 Bucks
13The National
High Violet

It took awhile, but once this clicked I fell in love and wanted to hear this all the time. The dude has a unique voice that I really dig. Song that hooked me: Anyone's Ghost
Hanging Gardens

This is just some fun, poppy music. Nothing to write home about but this has been fun the few times I've had it on while driving. Song that hooked me: I'll Get You
15Pain of Salvation

The concept on this is just amazing. I don't even know if I even like the actual music as much as I do the story. That being said, there are some great tracks here and is a very diverse, if lengthy listen. Song that hooked me: Imago

The vibe here is incredible. I listened to this with a friend once and he heard me playing it again he goes "oh, you're playing this morose motherfucker again". yes, yes i am. Song that hooked me: Gaia
17DJ Shadow

Another album that lives up to the massive hype surrounding it. It has a bit of a creepy vibe which I love. Song that hooked me: Building Steam With a Grain of Salt
18Nick Drake
Pink Moon

He achieves a lot with a little on this album. The guitar work here is brilliant. Song that hooked me: Road
19Kate Bush
Hounds of Love

This is my first introduction to Kate Bush. I enjoyed the first few tracks of this but as the album went on I was more and more impressed. Will be checking out some more of her stuff. Song that hooked me: Jig of Life
20Depeche Mode

Moody? Check. 80s-y? Check (Came out in 1990 but you know what I mean). My favorite Depeche Mode so far. Need to check out more of their shit. Song that hooked me: Enjoy the Silence
Young Rich Niggas

Rap music that is pretty much retarded but for some reason I like it. Its just a fun time. Song that hooked me: Hannah Montana

To be honest I haven't really even given this a close listen yet but I fell asleep to it a couple times and that was awesome so yeah.
Rust in Peace

It took me a long ass time to get over Dave's vocals but this just riffs too hard. Song that hooked me: Tornado of Souls
Pure Heroine

This is a great one to put on when I'm riding in the car with my girlfriend. Its something we can both dig and there are some fun tracks here. Song that hooked me: Tennis Court
Heart of Oak

Wasn't that impressed the first time I heard these guys, but that changed after I saw them live. This is pretty great especially for a debut. Song that hooked me: Overthrone
