10.22.12 | I feel like the second half really messed with the pacing of the overall film, for the worse. The quick-paced first half was really unique and different and really engaged me. Then as soon as Joe got to the farm, it slowed wayy down and all the uniqueness for me went out of the window and it felt like I was watching the plot of a shitty (or awesome?) Jean Claude van Damme movie from the 90s unfold. Also, how the second half was pretty much entirely focused on TK rather than time travel bothered me. As soon as they mentioned TK near the beginning of the movie I thought it would play a minor role, but not take over the entire movie. Would've much rather the time travel element was explored more.
That being said, I still quite liked the movie, but I couldn't help but feel disappointed after hearing all the hype and seeing the brilliant first half. I like Rian Johnson, he has a very unique voice, but Looper was a miss for me. I'd say Brick and The Brothers Bloom were better put-together films than Looper.
But by the time I submit this comment, there's probably gonna be another dozen comments about Vince Vaughn, so that's cool too. |
