Top 10 Neil Young Albums
My personal favorite Young albums, listed in order |
1 | | Neil Young On the Beach
I loved this album the first time I heard it. It's always really stood out
to me because its underproduction gives it this certain rawness that I
never seem to tire of. And side two contains two of my all-time favorite
songs. |
2 | | Neil Young After the Gold Rush
I've always considered this album to contain many of Young's best
melodies, and the acoustic work is astonishingly good. Side one is a
masterpiece. |
3 | | Neil Young Harvest
I feel like Harvest is one of his most varied albums, but the
songwriting is strong enough that it works. "Out on the Weekend"
happens to be one of my favorite songs of his. |
4 | | Neil Young Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
My favorite of his more rock-oriented albums. The title track is amazing. |
5 | | Neil Young Live at Massey Hall
Although it wasn't released until 2007, I still think his solo performance
on this album rivals any one of his other live albums. Plus the acoustic
rendition of Cowgirl is perfect. |
6 | | Neil Young Rust Never Sleeps
I'd consider this to be his most consistent album, and I think the
division of the acoustic half and the electric half is brilliant. |
7 | | Neil Young Zuma
Some consider this to be the sequel to "Everybody Knows this is
Nowhere", and it really does seem like it. Still though, the songs are
extremely well-written and it's a nice return to fully-produced Neil
Young records after the Ditch Trilogy. "Cortez the Killer" and "Danger
Bird" rank up there with "Down by the River" and "Cowgirl in the Sand".
In my mind, at least. |
8 | | Neil Young Tonight's the Night
Some really solid material on here, and it's a perfect display of Neil's
"don't give a shit" attitude. The title track rules |
9 | | Neil Young Time Fades Away
Bitchin' album. LA is my favorite track off here. |
10 | | Neil Young Harvest Moon
I've always rather liked the really mellow feel of this album. Feels
pretty folky compared to "Ragged Glory", but it's always very pleasant
to listen to. |
