|2013 Q1 Metal|
Some of my favourite metal releases from this year so far.
Horns in The Dark
Good OSDM album, nothing to write to home about though.
Straight Out of Hell
Cheesy as hell but some very fun songs.
Called to Rise
Great debut album from this new progressive DM band.
|17||Oceans of Slumber|
Another debut and another great progressive album. Vocals are a little lame but the
soundscapes they build are pretty damn good. Take note Persefone.
Technical and brutal as hell EP from this relatively new Belarus squad.
More solid DM, from Poland of all places.
|14||Rings of Saturn|
Might get some hate for this, but these guys are insane. Even more technical, even
more fun, still can't write songs for shit though.
Beyond The Self
Terrible album name aside, this is a great, slightly overlooked progressive metal
The Perishing Empire of Lies
Just some really solid OSDM from Spain.
More filthy DM; great riffs and suffocating atmosphere.
Reach Beyond The Sun
Really wasn't expecting to enjoy this, but after seeing the reception it got I had to
check it out and I was pretty impressed.
Pinnacle of Bedlam
Got a bit of hate from purists for it's tech sound, but another great album from
End of Disclosure
Melodeath veterans Hypocrisy released another great album, sounds engineering
could've been better but.
Traditional sounding black metal, great atmosphere and infectious riffs.
Murky as hell DM, not as good as Outre but still another solid release.
Just another well executed melodeath album from these Finns.
The Underground Resistance
Was very overhyped (I'm looking at you Demi and Pissbore), but it's nevertheless a
great album. "Valkyrie" is one of the best songs of the year so far.
Passages Into Deformity
More of the same from Defeated Sanity, not that that's a bad thing.
The Living Infinite
So far the biggest surprise of the year, a strong contender for AOTY as well.
Brilliant brutal DM from Russia, a must listen if you're into that sort of thing.
