12.21.12 Happy Doomsday!07.14.12 Sleeping At Last Ranked

Favorites From 2013

I listened to a heck of a lot more music this year than last. Here's some of what I enjoyed. Not in any order.
1Streetlight Manifesto
The Hands That Thieve

Easily the best ska from 2013.

Very solid indie rock that went pretty unnoticed.
3Vampire Weekend
Modern Vampires Of The City

Probably the best from them.

Can't understand how their ep is better like some say.
5Touche Amore
Is Survived By

Band continues their streak of great albums.

Perhaps a little overrated but it still rules.
This Is How The Wind Shifts

A step up from Rescue and up their with DTW and ASITS as my favorite Silverstein records.
The Anaesthete

9Mouth Of The Architect

Still can't fully get into post metal but this was pretty solid.

Not as good as Animals but still a great album with a new vocalist.

Amazing voice and good album.
12This Old Ghost
Family Room

Acoustic light rock and a fun little album. Too bad this band called it quits.

I always had a soft spot for these guys and this album was pretty fantastic.
14Night Verses
Lift Your Existence

Easily one of my favorite post hardcore albums of 2013, this just blew me away.
While A Nation Sleeps...

Probably my least favorite album from them but still a good comeback record.

My first Karnivool album and I know a lot of people were disappointed with it but I enjoyed it.
17A Lot Like Birds
No Place

Not as good as Conversation Piece but these guys deliver again.
18Arctic Monkeys

Way better than their last two records and probably my second favorite from them behind their debut.
19Norma Jean

Three year wait was worth it as these guys delivered another solid heavy album.
20Alter Bridge

Production was way too bottom heavy but the songs were top notch.
21Queens Of The Stone Age
...Like Clockwork

Definitly one of the best rock albums from 2013.
22Alice In Chains
The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here

Their worst album but not bad by any means.

What can I say, it's a super fun album.
24The Ongoing Concept

Could of been better but a solid debut nonetheless.
25The Ocean

Solid stuff, I like the version with vocals more.
26State Champs
The Finer Things

Great pop-punk debut. So damn catchy.
27The Almost
Fear Inside Our Bones

The Almost go for a more rock and roll sound and get much better because of it.
28Living Sacrifice
Ghost Thief

Not is good as The Infinite Order but still rules.
29Moving Mountains
Moving Mountains

I like the chill sound of this album compared to the others. Shame these guys are done for a while.
Letters Home

Don't get why people didn't like this, it's just as good as their last imo.
31My Epic

This band rules, and this album is worth the wait.
Full Of War

Their best album, this band shouldn't have broke up.
33Close Your Eyes
Line In The Sand

New vocalist isn't as good but this exceeded my expectations.
34Misery Signals
Absent Light

My first Misery Signals album and I gotta say it was pretty cool.
35Cage The Elephant

I'd say it's my favorite of theirs although it has stupid distortion on the production.
The Blackest Beautiful

This was one of my favorite albums of the summer. I still gotta see these guys in concert.
37Falling Up

The better of the two albums they released this year, these guys keep getting better.
38Breakdown Of Sanity

A big improvement for these guys.
39The Devil Wears Prada

Best full length from them.
40Omnium Gatherum

Vocalist bugs me sometimes but great atmosphere.
41Blue October

Better than their last album and pretty solid throughout.
The Last Word Is Yours To Speak

Another great metalcore album from Phinehas.
43Soul Embraced

After 5 years these guys haven't missed a beat.
The Living Infinite

Suprisingly consistently great double album from Soilwork.
45 Barrow
Though I'm Alone

I listened to this because of the cover and I was suprised at how good it was.
From The Bird's Cage

Not quite as great as The Inevitable And I but still awesome.
One Big Particular Loop

Took a little while to get used to the change in syle but this has grown to become one of my favorites from the year.
Altered State

Another album that exceeded my expectations with a new vocalist.
Something More

These guys went from annoying and generic to very solid.
50Everything In Slow Motion

Did not dissapoint. Quickly has become one of my favorites.
51August Burns Red
Rescue And Restore

My favorite abr album, great songwriting and production.
52Save Your Breath
There Used To Be A Place For Us

These guys improved a lot. Poor production kept this from being better.
53 Captain, Were Sinking
The Future Is Canceled

One of my favorite punk albums from the year.
54Life On Repeat

Heavier and much improved. Another band that is unfourtunatly breaking up.
55Dark Tranquillity

I didn't think WATV was that bad but this improved upon it.
56Hands Like Houses

I didn't like this as much as Ground Dweller at first, but it's grown quite a bit on me.
57Biffy Clyro

This on the other hand, has grown off me a bit but I still like it more than their last which I thought was pretty overrated.
58I The Mighty

I only recently got into this and it does indeed rule.
59The World Is A Beautiful Place...
Whenever, If Ever

This album suprised me as I went in as a noob to emo unsure what to expect and came out highly impressed.
60Senses Fail

I love the new style as much as the old one.
61Protest The Hero

Did not disappoint and their second best.

First Tyr album I listened to and it was fun.
63Amon Amarth
Deceiver Of The Gods

I like this band.
64City Lights
The Way Things Should Be

Improvement over In It To Win It and this band is one of the catchiest.

I thought this was boring at first but I like it a lot more now.
66The Dillinger Escape Plan
One Of Us Is The Killer

Another very solid release from tdep. Fun album.
67Justin Timberlake
The 20/20 Experience

This deserved most of the hype it got and is my favorite 2013 pop album.
68Arcade Fire

Long and bombastic, this still winds up to be another great Arcade Fire album.
69The Burial
In The Taking Of Flesh

These guys improved yet again, great metal album.
70The Dear Hunter

Not as good as their Acts albums, but not a disappointment either.
71The Venetia Fair
Every Sick, Disgusting Thought...

Fun album, this band is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
72Abandoned Pools

Tommy Walter continues the new electronic sound and while not as good as last year's Sublime Currency, this album continues the success with that sound.
73Jimmy Eat World

Goes for a more stripped down sound and does it pretty well. Better than their last two releases.
74The Reign Of Kindo
Play With Fire

One of my favorites from the year, I love the new jazzy sound.
75 Balance And Composure
The Things We Think Were Missing

Much more of a grower than Seperation, this album is just as good as it's predecessor.
76Anthony Green
Young Legs

I have always enjoyed his solo stuff quite a bit and this album is no exception.
77Kevin Devine

I started listening to this guy right before this dropped and it's the better of the two albums he released.
78Still Remains
Ceasing To Breathe

A great kickstarter comeback album that tops The Sepent easily.
79My Heart To Fear

Vocals take some getting used to, but this is one of the best metalcore albums this year.
80 O'Brother

I like the darker sound of this album though I prefer Garden Window
81Sainthood Reps

I couldn't quite place these guys in their first album. They were kinda all over the place, however in Headswell they narrowed down their own style and its great.
Black Out The Sun

Another band I've always had a soft spot for. This album is another good one to add to their consistent discography.
83Sleeping At Last

One of the ep's from the Atlas project he's been doing this year. This one's my favorite.
84The Dangerous Summer
Golden Record

Better than War Paint but doesn't touch their debut, these guys continue making great pop punk.
85The Flatliners
Dead Language

This is a good punk album and I'm really starting to get into these guys.

This is by far their best since Sing The Sorrow.
87Children Of Bodom
Halo Of Blood

Up their with Follow The Reaper and Hate Crew Deathroll.
The Difference Between Hell And Home

This album is heavy and hard. Another great metalcore album.
89Heart In Hand
Almost There

I didn't really go into this with super high expectations but it's really solid. Vocalist annoys me every now and then but that would be my only complaint.
90The Wonder Years
The Greatest Generation

They didn't quite top Suburbia but I didn't really expect them to and this is great in it's own right.
91 The Story So Far
What You Don't See

My favorite pop punk album of the year, production brings it down slightly but not too much.
92The Swellers
The Light Under Closed Doors

This album kinda flew under my rader when it released but I listened to it a few weeks ago and enjoyed it.
93Into It. Over It.

This new style threw me off at first, but I think I may like it more than Proper.
94Off With Their Heads

This is my pop punk part of the list I guess.
95The Safety Fire
Mouth Of Swords

Definitly an improvement from their first album.
96Starflyer 59

He may never top his golden years up till Portugese Blues, but this album is still better than his last several albums.

A solid sophmore album from Northlane.
98Hope For The Dying

A better album instrumentally and vocally than Dissimulation, but not as good imo, still really impressive.
99Farewell Fighter

A great debut album from this pop punk band.

Not as good as Silent Water or Skyforger but definitly improves upon The Beginning Of Time.
