Vocalists Needed

So I've formed a band with a couple friends and we play progressive death metal (or more accurately, we rip off Opeth). So I'm the vocalist, and we're covering Opeth's April Ethereal. I'm fine doing the low harshes, but when it comes to doing the higher, more raspy screams, it a.) sounds shit, and b.) absolutely kills my throat. Has anyone got any tips on how to do the higher harshes more easily and effectively? Thanks for any advice given.
