12.17.11 | Sennheiser HD 25-1 II
should be around $150~200. look no further - these are the king of portable headphones by some distance. (i'm assuming you'd want portable because indoor setups are going to cost you more than $200) |
sifFlammable
12.17.11 | being closed cans they're also naturally inclined towards electronic music. try playing aquatic family affair on these and you'll see what i mean |

12.17.11 | if you want a high quality headphone I would go with a Shure pro or pro studio model. They sound amazing. and you can get a good price on amazon. |

^^Get these. I've never seen the HD598s cheaper on amazon than they are right now. |
jefflebowski
12.17.11 | 'And fuck Beyerdynamic, they're like the Apple of the headphone industry, decent but overpriced'
The DT770s are better than any other equivalently priced headphones i've tried as well as being more durable |
Haz
12.17.11 | "@ Haz, nice i might get those" I'd believe the hype. Several audiophile type forums on the web I have
frequented jizz all over them as great value for money, and they really are. I love my pair. |
jefflebowski
12.17.11 | 'That's because it's the only pair of headphones you ever tried, maybe?'
....or maybe not! |
StrangerofSorts
12.17.11 | If you want some money left over for a cheap amp or something, get the HD595's. You'll hardly notice the difference between them and the 598's. |
Hordewolf
12.17.11 | I'd usually tell you to get Teufel, but they're an exclusively German brand so I'll second Sennheiser. |
sifFlammable
12.17.11 | I have the 598 and they have a better sound chip than 595s
Also thanks for ignoring my rec on HD-25s, but I guess i wont be too disappointed if you get the M50 they're great
|
StrangerofSorts
12.17.11 | I didn't deny there's a difference, but you're paying a lot for that little extra slice of clarity.
Also wa'chu talking about Baseline. 595's look more sophisticated, even if the 8's look slightly like they have elements of rich mahogany.

Pentagon
12.17.11 | Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Right now I'm torn between the HD 25- I Sennheisers and Beyerdynamic 770's. @ Hordewolf, I live in the Netherlands, so maybe I could order online I guess? |
Hordewolf
12.17.11 | Well, you can't order them from their website since they only order to Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic but if you can order from German Amazon you can get them there, just type in "Teufel Aureol" - they're pretty HQ but way cheaper than most of the Sennheisser/Bose/ect. stuff. |
sifFlammable
12.17.11 | Listen to baseline here, the DT series seriously need an amp (personally, the DT880 600ohm are the best) or else you're really wasting $. I bought the 598s because they work relatively great without an amp, but it's not something you'll want if you're going to listen to electronic music. It's got bass, but it's not really prominent.
Trust me on the HD-25 - reference quality sound with excellent bass, and no need to worry about sound leakage / amp |
sifFlammable
12.17.11 | ebay international works good |
jefflebowski
12.17.11 | as much as I love them, the DT770s suffer un-amped compared to the sennheisers, especially the 250ohm version. Having had both, the 80ohm ones work pretty well with ipods though |
Adash
12.17.11 | Grado Sr 125's. Got mine from a friendly black man and never looked back. Sound is superb and they look like you're the radio operator in a WWII submarine |
Pentagon
12.18.11 | Thanks for the recs guys. In the end I decided to get the HD 25-I Sennheisers. |
bakkermaarten007
12.18.11 | Good choice! I'm glad you didn't go for Beats headphones for headphone manufacturer's credibility's sake! |
Sleaper
12.18.11 | how much were they man? mine just got crushed in my bag so i gotta buy some new ones. i dont wanna spend any more than $50 > |
bakkermaarten007
12.18.11 | The ones he bought were way more than 50$. I would suggest you to buy the Sennheiser CX300 II, they're the best you can buy at that price. Were mine for a long time, now using Klipsch Image S4 and I must say the Sennheisers don't lose by a mile. |
GenusHomo
12.20.11 | I have sennheiser px100-II's which I like. The bass, mids and highs are all good but they do bleed sound |

12.20.11 | I have some radioshack brand noise-cancelling headphones that work superbly. Great bass for rap and slude/doom, only thirty bucks. I also have beats for my laptop speakers and those work pretty damn well too. |

12.20.11 | I am really weary about spending good money on head phones...I always find a way to break them. 12.20.11 | @Fourthreich you should try the Koss Ksc75s, they are only ten bucks on amazon and have a lifetime warranty, you can even break them yourself to get them replaced. Plus they are they are by FAR the best anywhere near that price. |
iZac
12.20.11 | Also Grados (or Alessandros if you live outside the US due to high shipping costs) are great for rock and metal. The Alessandro MS-1 which I use has a similar sound signature to the Ksc75, so it's easy to switch between the two for portable/home use. |
