02.21.13 | ive already recorded 3 tracks using the set and was quite pleased |
MetallicOpeth
02.21.13 | nice, though I can't stand playing electric kits, doesn't feel natural at all |
Cipieron
02.21.13 | i hate electric sets without mesh heads, but for the price i think you came out ahead |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | my thoughts exactly MO, they really don't compare to the true acoustic feel but where I live acoustic sets would be too loud without a sound room
so it works for the time being but my long-term goal would be to get a sound room if I can ever afford one and get a sweet acoustic set
@ Cip - yeah bro it was a steal because now I can have jam sessions with friends whenever into the wee hours of the night, so I'm stoked about that, there are some really nice top of the line sets though, like this one for 7 grand
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums-percussion/roland-td-30kv-v-pro-series-electronic-drum-kit
I think even MO would dig that one |
TheBigLebowski
02.21.13 | I'm looking for a new drum kit man, looks like a steal to me.
I need a good place to buy a kit from really, any recs? |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | @ big - u lookin for an electronic kit or an acoustic? |
elephantREVOLUTION
02.21.13 | i have a roland v-drum that i got off someone for a couple hundred bucks and i love it. i don't have room for an acoustic kit in my apartment so it's perfect for practicing. |
TheBigLebowski
02.21.13 | Electronic dude, acoustic would be too loud, mum is pregnant haha |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | @ elephant - which type I wanna look it up, also yea electronic kits are perfect for apartments, and yea def nice for practice. I equalize my quite through my sony mixing gear and I get the sound I want quite easily |
SgtPepper
02.21.13 | I played one at guitar center and it was pretty cool actually. I'm not all that good of a drummer, but I played a couple stuff and it
sounded pretty good. But like MetallicOpeth said, it didnt feel natural. The cymbals didnt move on the one I played (some people
like that, some dont), and the sound-effects were a bit strange. I think it was aone of the cheap ones.
This looks pretty decent though. And I guess it's convenient because you can play as much as you want with headphones.

ZilbelPing
02.21.13 | Agreed with MO, electronic sets can never replicate the feel of an acoustic set, which is a big turn off for me. |
MikeC26
02.21.13 | Electric drum sets are so versatile though. I like assigning different trippu effects to the toms on my kit. |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | @ big - for sure haha, well here's the link to guitar center's electronic used drum sets
http://www.guitarcenter.com/Drum-Sets,Used-Gear.gc?ipp=25
also check your local craigslist, they usually have random things that come up
also you may be able to strike a deal at your local music store if they sell them there but craigslist and the used guitar center link above are prolly your best sources for used gear, if you want it brand new go to:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/search.jsp?N=700008&Ns=r&Ntk=ALL&Ntx=mode+matchpartialmax&Nty=1&Ntt=electronic%20drum%20set |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | @ paper - exactly I can full on jam for days with my headphones or plug it into any sized amp for a full on massive live sound, they usually take some tweaking to get the sound you want but with a proper ear you can make them sound fairly close to the acoustic styles with natural limitations ofcourse
@ zilbelping - so true but for the average person who doesn't have ideal playing conditions an electronic kit can be the perfect thing to get a person into drums and develop their playing techniques
@ mike - yea bro agreed, I have like 50 different kits on my ranging from metal kits, rock kits, jazz kits, even jazz brush kits, and electro kits, sound effects ect. |

02.21.13 | i don't think this is the exact model but it's pretty close to what i have. i got it off someone my mom knows for 350 and it came with all the cables, pedal, throne, sticks, and speakers.

CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | yea bro if you're ever near a local music store or guitar center check it out, they're pretty fun, unless you're an elite drummer that is haha |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | @ elephant - looks pretty cool bro, ive seen those around, they're pretty expensive, but the reviews look pretty good for it:
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/drums-percussion/roland-td-11k-s-v-compact-series-electronic-v-drum-kit#review
out of 4 reviews, each person gave it a 5/5, ur stoked man, looks like the snare may be a mesh pad, hows it feel |
insomniac15
02.21.13 | I always love to play drums, I usually do that when the drummer in my band is not playing them. I'd really like an electronic kit. I just saw No-Man's Mixtaped DVD and it's really cool, even if it's not the real deal like the acoustic one. |
DominionMM1
02.21.13 | if i weren't a musician, i'd consider being a drummer. |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | yea bro im a guitar/bass player but always wanted to play drums
and i tinkered on my drummers kit back in the days and thats how i developed some ability
but yea drums are one of my fav instruments ever |
MoosechriS
02.21.13 | electronic kits are pretty cool, i used to have a roland td-6 electronic kit and a pearl acoustic kit. the electronic kit was good for practice at home as you can just put on a set of headphone and you don't annoy the neighbors. Had to sell all my gear about 4-5 years ago when i moved home though, aint played or done anything since unfortunately |
insomniac15
02.21.13 | Captain, maybe others asked you before and gave them the answers, haven't you sent some of your work to indie labels or you want to release your music on your own ? |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | @ moose - that roland td-6 looks pretty cool, dam 4-5 years without playing sounds painful, i bet you miss the drums bro, and oh what i would do for a pearl kit
@ insomniac - nope ive never sent any of my work anywhere, i thought about it because other users encouraged me to do so, but ive always wanted my music to be free so i never pursued it, but maybe i still will with those contingencies |
MoosechriS
02.21.13 | i miss playing alot, hopefully some day i can pick up another kit of some form and go back to it. But at the moment me and my gf are wanting to have kids and we live in a small 2 bedroom house with hardly and extra space available as it is so it's kind of not an option until we buy a bigger place. |
Drummerboy123
02.21.13 | Advantages:
Its easier to record for a band with them
Fast to set up
Good sound quality
Disadvantages:
Its harder to mix
Hard to put sutiltites in grooves (ghost notes, emblishments etc)
Sound isn't as good as an acoustic. |
insomniac15
02.21.13 | @ captain - there are indie labels have a loose policy and act more like distributors and leave you record at your own pace. however, it's your decision. i am curious to hear the whole record you're working on. |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | oh bro that's awesome! I have a two year son with my wife and he's a ton of fun, that's really cool, i have a two bedroom place too but i have all my music stuff in the garage, otherwise my bedroom would be packed, best wishes bro, children are awesome imo |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | @ drummer - agreed 100% nice analysis
@ insomniac - cool ill look into that, i may just need some direction cuz i know nothing of contacted a record company, also I uploaded a new track from my album, check my list for it i just made, it's the 4th track out of 7 |
MoosechriS
02.21.13 | yeah i cant wait to be a dad, i'd kill for a garage haha we've just got a small driveway with parking spaces on it. But we do plan to move to a bigger place or possibly extend the house and convert the loft space so i may hopefully in the next couple of years start plating again. |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | sweet man, you're gonna have a fun journey ahead of you it sounds like
maybe we can collab sometime in the future in the music ever pulls through
although, I bet you'll be a pretty busy father tho ;] |
bloc
02.21.13 | These can be pretty handy at times, but nothing beats the real thing personally. Although the kit I was using was a mid priced one. Really curious to hear what a top of the line one sounds and feels like. |
CaptainDooRight
02.21.13 | the Roland TD-30KV V-Pro is prolly the best on the market for 8 grand, here's some vids:

@ demi - def do some trial usage at your local guitar center or music store so you make sure its what you want |
ManintheBox
02.22.13 | though I can't stand playing electric kits, doesn't feel natural at all
^^ thats how I feel about electric kits. They feel stiff and nowhere near as flexible as an acoustic when you play them. But seriously under 200 for all of that is a serious steal. what music are you recording and mainly play with it? |
CaptainDooRight
02.22.13 | absolutely bro I just couldn't pass it up,
I'm playing jazz, rock, metal, death metal, prog rock and prog metal with it
mixing it through sony acid in collaboration with vox, guitars, bass, and keyboards, basically the whole 9 |
DarthMann
02.22.13 | not a bad pickup id like an electronic drum-set cos recording an acoustic with 1 mic and not in a sound-proof room is pretty much out of the question |
CaptainDooRight
02.22.13 | same hard |
