Horizons
To ambient or not to ambient, that is the question. This imo is one of the finest ambient albums. It really gets your mind traveling. The transitions feel honest and the feeling of natural and synth atmospheres colliding is peaceful-pleasurable, yet dark and stirring. The production is perfect; there is haze and there clarity, balaced unanimously; executing a world of power amidst this coalition of soundscapes. 4/5 | | 2 |  | The Slow Death
The Slow Death
Simply amazing and beautiful doom. It's heavy, dark, depressive but almost never boring. Leads and harmonies and even well fitting female operatic-droning vocals fit the music well and sustain its entertainment. The slower melodies here seem to hold a lot of weight as well. It's not perfect but it's worth getting if you're into relaxing to some well crafted music that just builds and builds. 4/5 | | 3 |  | SIG:AR:TYR
Sailing the Seas of Fate

The Womb Beyond the World
Very tasty symphonic funeral doom but the tag of symphonic is not cheese or lameness. Here we have well fitting-depressive doom with synths that create an atmosphere of sounds that fit the depressing themes perfectly. The vocals are deep and hazzy, yet powerful and the production here is perfect. You need to here this now. This one man group's release proves to be one of the strongest doom albums of 2012. 3.5/5 | | 5 | | Wilderun
Olden Tales & Deathly Trails
An interesting new metal-folk band with occasional riffs that sound like Wintersun, vocals that sound like Roy Khan from Kamelot but not as technically perfect. There are even occasional death style vocals that reserved for certain moments. The music is playful and enjoyable without being really cheesy. If anything there are some boring parts which draw down the score but the music is executed with sometimes, virtuosity, where you may hear the guitaristy effortlessly running through a complecated guitar line. I highly recommend any fan of folk-metal to give this a try. You may either really enjoy this or hate it. You decide. 3/5 | | 6 |  | Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster
Exegesis
A solid post-rock/metal album with Tool-like song structures and vibes. The riffs are tasty but sometimes lax and stolen. The drums here would make this album stronger but he isn't as solid as Danny but he does a decent job. He's either holding back or just not expressing himself up to the potential that this album needs. Either way, it's enjoyable and worth checking out. Think more Lateralus meets Panopticon. 3.5/5 | |
